What were your favorite lunatic theories on the SDMB?

It took a while, but it worked.

Now if only we could summon Sunny_Daze.

Haha, yes, well… you are right

It’s a big world with lots more to talk about than just ancient history.

Is “scientism” taboo here?

Technically, history is ancient.

There’s also ancient history from ten years ago.

It is worse, that thread showed that the “theory” was not just hydraulic power, but also a combination of natural and man made geysers…with no evidence whatsoever of that. And even worse, mentioning too that the ancient book of the death was about that technology was something that never explains why there were no descriptions elsewhere about the fantastic water works of the day. Nope, the evidence showed that writings of the book of the death are repeated in the context of burials and mummies. Not about workers making mojitos with all the soda water. :slightly_smiling_face:

You forgot to mention the obvious corollary to that, which is that the purpose of science education is to brainwash us with lies so that we don’t find out The Truth™. Throw that in, and you now have the identical world view of another poster who was mentioned earlier in this thread, MANTRAPHILTER.

That poster was mentioned in connection with a long thread in which he regaled us with his theory that unified the four fundamental forces of physics, the understanding of which apparently physicists have got all wrong. The thread was eventually closed when he started insulting other posters who took exception to his theory (which he claimed was not theory, but fact!). He, too, had disdain for things like higher education, math, and facts, none of which his “theory” required.

We also have this Tom guy in FQ who has literally zero understanding of even the rudimentary basics of special relativity, but has taken the time to lecture us on why Einstein was wrong and the speed of light is not a limitation to how fast one can travel through space. The proof of this astonishing fact can be provided by a thought experiment: think about a rocket with really, really powerful rocket engines, and there you go! I suspect Tom doesn’t have much use for higher education, either.

This reminded me of one of my favorite lunatic theories seen in the SDMB, the “electric-sun hypothesis” and the “electric/plasma universe theory”. Never mind that it ignored the evidence of meteors and volcanic activity for making craters in all the solid planets and moons of the solar system. It seriously tried to explain how the sun and planets had time and precision with the electrical arcs-lightnings to make the big craters.

The planets in the past moved slower back then, you see…

:person_facepalming:

(Search for “electric-sun” if you want the gory details.)

WAKE UP SHEEPLE!

I liked him. Obviously I disagreed with both his claims and his ‘evidence’. However, he genuinely believed that he was endangering his own life by telling us about the electric sun. He continued speaking out anyway, because he thought people deserved to know the truth.

Was he any good at science? Umm, no. Was he willing to sacrifice himself for the good of his fellow human beings? Yes, he was. I thnk that is worthy of praise.

Uh, NO.

That way of thinking has resulted in the enforcement of things that are bad for fellow human beings.

Is it

MANTRA PHILTER

or

MAN TRAP HILTER

HITLER?

?

Hey, that’s just like Homer.

Actually, only some were written by Shakepeare. Others were written by some guy named Shakspere. Some of his earliest works were written by Shakesspere and Shaxpeer. Unless one were to believe that the great literary bard couldn’t spell his own name!

Remember- the whole thread was tongue in cheek. It was never meant to be serious.

Several are considered co-authored, actually.
William Shakespeare's collaborations - Wikipedia.

The difference being that I keep getting proven correct. You should try to keep up with the science.

But I’m not back to talk about being correct about anything at all as I know I can be wrong about anything at all. I wanted to talk about scientism and how everyone seems to know the answer and the nature of reality except for me.

If there’s any interest we can start another thread.

There isn’t.

Remember FormerAgent, and the guy who thought the world was about to end due to secret planets (or maybe a secret Sun?) but that before we perished it was vital to establish that moneyed interests had been responsible for all the presidential assassinations

C’mon, don’t keep it to yourself. What’s the biggest thing that you think everyone accepts, but it’s wrong, and how do you know?
