What what your favorite boardgame as a kid?

Risk, Sorry, Mousetrap, most of the ones mentioned.

We had this game, and I can’t remember what it was called, but it was, like, a mountain? With a big, scary face? I think there were little silver balls involved, but I can’t be too sure. A volcano, maybe? Ugh, I dunno. Great game though.

I liked Nintendo games, too. My mom and I used to play Bubble Bobble together all the time.

“Get the umbrella!”

Stratego and Stalingrad.

I LOVE BUBBLE BOBBLE! We still play sometimes

Whoops! That wasn’t meant to happen. Life was my favorite game.

I played a lot of Careers, Monopoly and Risk. I’ve been wanting to get a risk set for my kids.

One of my favorite games when I was in 5th/6th grade (I remember playing it during indoor recess) was called Obsession.

You had 12 rings numbered 1-12. Your rolled both dice and you could either take the total of the roll, or each one seperately and move your pieces or move your opponent’s back. Each piece had to go two steps to the goal (once it reach the goal it was safe)

The stupidest game I ever played with my kids was the Barney board game. Every time one of the players reaches the goal, everyone is supposed to clap for them. I played it with my (then)4 year old daughter and (then) 9 year old sister-in-law. My sister-in-law kept giving me “God this game is stupid” looks through the whole thing.

I, too, love Bubble Bobble. :frowning: But I don’t have a Nintendo anymore.

I’m going to harass the people Nintendo until they either A) release a Bubble Bobble for the Game Cube I already have, or B) launch a special 20th Anniversary of Nintendo campaign, releasing the Original Nintendo and all the games. They will crack eventually.

Solarquest. Think Monopoly, but instead of color-coded streets you had them assorted by planet, and you could keep going around and around a planet as long as you had fuel (and the cash) and could cross the black dots of interplanetary void. It takes forever to play. And of course we sharpened our Machiavellian scheming muscles on it.

Psst, Silver Fire. They’re on to you.

You could always use one of the systems that make old NES games playable on a PC. I’ve wasted hours in this fashion.

Back to board games, I was always a Monopoly kid. My best friend in middle school used to gnash her teeth because she just simply couldn’t beat me. Now I’m more fond of Kill Dr. Lucky and other Cheap Ass Games or Puerto Rico.

Yeah, I already know about that, but I don’t have a GBA. I suppose I could steal my nephew’s…

Risk.

Some of those games I played could get ugly, though. Risk could be the most fun ever, or it could leave jets of steam shooting out of my ears.

I still love board games. Some of my favorites were Monopoly, Trouble, Operation, and Candyland.

I played Trouble and UNO all this afternoon. It was lots of fun.

Nobody played chess as a kid? I did, and really liked it. I wasn’t (and still am not) a prodigy or anything, but I enjoyed it a lot.

Don’t know if that falls within the OP’s definition of “board games.”

Payday (boy, it sure looks a lot different), Monopoly, Life, and Chinese Checkers.

Twister!

Got an old PC? There’s an Underdog abaondonware site that has the DOS version.

You just woke up half a memory in my brain… unfortunately, not the half with the name. I remember this game, or at least I think I do. There was an angry mountain and you had to move your man (marble?) down the path and across the bridge before the mountain shook…

Sorry, Monopoly, Win Lose or Draw, and Clue were the main ones in my house. We had Bedbugs, Guess Who, and Super Quiz 2000, which we also played a lot, but my favorite was always Clue.

My favorites were Sorry and Uno.

As a child I mainly played card games, but my favourite board game would definitely have been Squatter, an Australian sheep farming game. As I grew up on a sheep station, this game held more appeal for me than Monopoly.

The English version of Monopoly was probably the most popular with my kids when they were younger with Squatter and the Game of Life coming a close second. We still all play and enjoy a variety of card and board games today.

I played a lot of board games as a kid.

In addition to some already mentioned (Risk, Stratego, Payday), some of favourites were flash-in-the-pans, probably less widely distributed.

  • Electronic Intercept
  • Dracula
  • Full House
  • Stocks and Bonds (from the 60s)
  • Pentathalon
  • Poleconomy (Canada only?)
  • Balderdash

Some I liked at the time (What was I thinking?)

  • Ruffhouse
  • Disaster
