They are retiring the fleet and IIRC, that’s more than a dozen planes. I’m sure some will wind up in air museums. I sure hope none of them get scrapped. I wonder if they will try to sell them to private groups or individual billionaires.
I don’t know, but I doubt that it would be feasible for even a billionare to run and maintain a Concorde.
The BBC reported that they will be donated to aviation museums.
If I were a billionaire, I wouldn’t want to fly it, I’d make a house out of it.
Richard Branson offered to buy BA’s concordes (for Virgin) for the same price that they originally paid for the planes, one Pound each, but the deal was nixed. The problem was that only Air France and British Airways could fly the planes based on the deal that the French and English governments made with - I forget the name of the company that was formed, but it was the forerunner of Airbus IIRC. Considering that the two governments poured in 10’s of billions if not over 100 billion dollars into research for a product with no real market, they can’t fly at top speed over land because they’re too noisy, they were able to get that stipulation agreed to.
Hey, I’llgive them FIVE pounds for one of em’!
Seriously, I am sure that they would fetch a pretty high price at auction even if they were not to be flown, but what would it cost to maintain these things for intermittent private use? How many people are in the world that can afford these things?
Doesnt matter who can afford them, start the bidding at a buck and watch it rise like mad.
Ebay?
