I thought it was a cool design, but my understanding they never got farther than digging a hole for it and now the project is cancelled.
So what are the plans for it?
Yeah, it sucks. That was one building I thought would be a really cool addition to the skyline, and I just assumed it was going to be another one of those projects that would never happen. When they actually broke ground for it, I got really excited. Alas, my hopes dashed. On the flip side, I’ve warmed up to that Trump building, which I at first thought was an ugly, bulky, glass monstrosity, but actually fits in quite well into the skyline and echoes the river nicely.
There is a contest going on right now and whoever has the best idea, if its applied, they get their name or something on a wall there. If you Google it, I’m sure you can find the submissions so far and vote for what you like.
I’m glad it got cancelled. That thing looked like a giant dick to me.
I hate to be un-PC, but maybe San Francisco might be interested in it for their skyline?

It looks like a human dick from a ways off. Up close, it looks a pig’s turnscrew dick.
Nah, it looks like a drill bit or birthday candle. I’ve never seen any tapered or twisted penes. It’s only phallic in the sense that most skyscrapers are. Two Prudential looks more dick-like than the Spire.
ETA: Actually, I guess the most current design was a bit more phallic than I remember. I was thinking more the original design, which is more tapered and pointier.

I just walked past the site. it’s a shame it won’t be built. I detest the Trump tower.First of all it blocks the view from my apartment of the Aon Building which I like. Second they have that pointy spire, which is totally out of place on the building and the only reason it’s there is so Trump can claim his building is the second tallest in Chicago.
I like the Trump Tower. They did a nice jib and it is certainly better then what was there.
Yeah, plus the fact that the Trump building looks like a giant cigarette lighter. Maybe, if we go by foolsguinea’s giant doobie idea, it is a bad thing that the Spire will never be built.
