It’s unlikely any of us will be around to see it, but what do you think the world will be like in 2100 CE? What will have changed? What will be the same?
2100 is going to be an election year, right?
Sleazy demagogic politics will be the same.
Even if it’s different in some way unrecognizable to us, it will be the same.
La plus ça change, la plus c’est le meme chose.
The more things change, the more things stay the same.
The Chinese Century having been over, people will be predicting the inevitable decline of Chinese power in the face of the meteoric rise of Africa.
I think VR will be huge by then.
Not only will there be a holodeck-like technology*, but we’ll have got past the point of using it just to fulfill fantasies. We’ll also work, study and socialize in such environments.
The implications for society and what we can be bothered to do in the real world are huge. But all the components needed for such technology are advancing very quickly, so it seems almost certain to happen by then IMO.
- And I mean “holodeck” in the broadest sense. The real holodecks may simply be created by direct neurological stimulation.
Trans-human & unrecognizable.
Round-ish
The ways that people will spend their time . . . and the technology they’ll use . . . will be unrecognizable. How could someone from 1900 even guess what 2000 would be like? And change itself is happening faster all the time.
But politically, it’s going to be a very rocky century. Most of the world will be governed by radical fundamentalists . . . Christian and Jewish in the U.S., Christian and Muslim in Latin America and Europe, Muslim in the rest of the world.
And oh yes, nuclear weapons will have been used by terrorist-run nations.
In 2100 people will be making inaccurate predictions of what life will be like in 2200.
In the year 2525, if man is still alive…
Smooth & grey.
It will be a very resource-scarce world. Virtually all the oil will be gone and basic things like iron will be in short supply because the lower quality ores they are down to require more energy to refine. Unless cheap fusion is achieved, in which case all bets are off. The US will never recover from the current depression since both parties, but mainly the Repugs, are more interested in scoring electoral points than solving the problems. When the oceans have risen three feet, the US will be reduced to the area between the Appalachians and the Rockies, the dead heartwood of the country.
We still won’t have flying cars god damn it!
Like a pale blue dot. In other words, I hope that many of us will be living off-world by then.
Much like the world looked like in 2001 or 2010.
Either blue and green, or possibly blackish gray if the nuclear winter isn’t over by then.
Extremely thinly populated by widely separated remnant human populations surviving at a subsistence level, after the Great Starvation/Plague years. No cities.
Just read a cool article about unmanned flying drones.
I can see a LOT of aerial surveillance being done by 2100. Bug-sized cameras will be everywhere and personal privacy will be minimal.
My daughter will be as old as my grandmother is right now: 89.
Qin might well.
This is turning out to be a fascinating Rorschach test.
