What is this “volunteer”? Quien parte y reparte se queda la mejor parte… he who cuts and gives out gets to keep the best part, and it’s usually me who plates the roast chicken.
Fried chicken (unbreaded), those with bad taste don’t have time to offer “anybody want the skin?”, it flies away. Except for whatever parts Mom has touched, because the woman has some seriously gross habits.
I’ve plucked chickens. I’ve killed chickens. I’ve fed the chickens I was going to kill and pluck. They’re food, you eat food.
Gimme, gimme, gimme.
Isn’t KFC’s pop corn chicken basically skin? That’s why it’s so good.
People who don’t eat fried-chicken skin might as well go vegan.
I’d rather butcher than pluck, I get feathers everywhere and it looks like a gang-banged the chicken while leaving 30% of the feathers on.
Whatch a pro pluck a chicken is a thing of beauty.
I haven’t had them, but it would be a bit unusual if they were. I looked up the ingredients, and all I see is diced chicken breast and rib meat “fritters” with a breading, which is usually what these nugget type concoctions are. If they are, indeed, made with chicken skin, I am so there!
Anyhow, that’s what chicken wings are for: us skin lovers!
Oh, what will you do with your chicken skin –
What will I do with my chicken skin?
Why, nibble it, sipping a tonic-and-gin.
Chicken skin, tonic-and-gin,
And all manner of things.
Of all the stuff that comes on a fowl,
The skin’s the best – its praises I’ll howl !
How are ye the day… (etc.)
Fried chicken skin is the best part of the bird, as long as it’s not those too-thick, too-fatty flabby bits. Lightly breaded or coated and a bit peppery and spicy, please
But roast duck skin is truly the Food Of The Gods. My dad and I could strip the Christmas roast duck of every last bit of crispy goodness in about 15 seconds flat.
I’ve been a dirty rotten chicken plucker and chicken skin is disgusting…until it’s been (lightly) breaded and fried. If it’s a meat heavy piece like a thigh or breast, it’s properly eaten by pulling off the skin, setting it aside, yanking and gnawing the meat from the bone*, and consuming the skin afterwords. Less meaty pieces like wings or drums can be devoured either plain or by dipping in your preferred sauce but skin and meat are eaten together.
As for pigskin…it’s best used for footballs or gloves unless it is fried. Then it becomes a crunchy yet ethereal snack. I will, however, never understand pickled pig skin
I definitely would eat my own, but couldn’t imagine eating someone else’s. The skin is there to complement the chicken. Eating just pure chicken skin would be gross. Rather like eating the bacon bits and sour cream off of someone else’s baked potato.
