What woman would you like to see nominated?

I tell myself that I’m ready for a female president, but Hillary Clinton just isn’t it. I’m drawing a blank on which woman should be considered, though.

What American women have the qualifications, but not the baggage? Nancy Pelosi, Condoleezza Rice and Barbara Mikulski all seem a little too extreme to survive the vetting. Who’s left? Mary Bono? Kay Bailey Hutchinson? Who am I missing here?

Oprah, duh!

I would have voted for Ann RIchards if given the opportunity.
Kathleen Sebelius (Governor of Kansas) has been mentioned as a possible VP pick for Obama. What I know of her I like, and she has plenty of experience. I would support her candidacy if the planets were to line up right.

By that I mean that if Obama is elected this year he’d likely run again in 2012, and unless he’d really screwed up royally she wouldn’t be likely to challenge an incumbent President. That scenario would make her next opportunity 2016, and she’ll be 68. I don’t think that’s all that old, but if age is much as an issue as it has been with McCain she might not get party support.

Chelsea 2016

Ditto that.
I might break faith with the Democratic Party and consider casting a vote for a Republican prez if they’d run Olympia Snowe.
I anticipate even yet casting a vote for Hillary Clinton for Prez, btw, just not this year.

Jesus, don’t you even have a political viewpoint (aside from vagina worship) that includes actual stands on relevant issues? I mean, how is it that you’re even considering both Nancy Pelosi and Condi Rice?

Margaret Thatcher.

Who you talking to, Mal? The OP’s the only one who mentioned Pelosi and Rice, and the only “consideration” was that both (along wth Barbara Mikulski) would have problems getting nominated.

[I would eagerly have voted for [Barbara Jordan](Barbara Jordan - Wikipedia) (I also think she should have gotten a Supreme Court nod). Unfortunately, she’s now dead, which makes her better than the current administration, but really still not quite up to snuff.

Depending on the competition, I might have voted for Millicent Fenwick, but unfortunately she’s dead too.

I’m still ready for simultaneous impeachment of Bush and Cheney, which would give us President Pelosi.

I don’t see her running for President, but I don’t think she needs to. She’s already won the top spot in Congress, and seems like she knows what to do with it.

Let’s see what happens with Janet Napolitano, Claire McCaskill, and Kathleen Sibelius over the next several years. One or all of them might look quite formidable in 2016. Sibelius will be 68 that year, which is not out of bounds but is on the high side; the other two will be 59 and 63, respectively.

The other thing worth considering is how rapidly the cast of characters can change. The woman who runs for President in 2016 or 2020 might now be a four-term Congresswoman, or the lieutenant governor of a state, or who knows what - but someone without a big national profile now, who wins higher office and gains a wider following in the interim.
