What would America do if Muslims with guns protested outside of churches?

It’s certainly not something I’d do, but it’s apparently perfectly legal, at least in that state. I consider it a bit asinine and mean, but I feel that way about Oakland Raiders fans too.

The United States, the country mentioned in the thread title and where the “protestors” we’ve been discussing were.

There was the event in Garland, Texas, where two jihadists showed up armed to the teeth, apparently to murder Pamela Geller and / or the other attendees. I consider that significant. I don’t know why we’d limit the discussion to just this country though. It’s not like Islamic terrorists are real keen on respecting international borders.

Okay, so just so we are clear: you think it’s more likely that a group of heavily armed, masked people “protesting” outside a mosque in Texas are armed and masked because they fear reprisals, rather than because they are trying to intimidate the mosquegoers?

Because the dead are restful.

If they wanted to wear masks, they should have picked niqab.

Shodan

Well, it’s probably because they aren’t exactly secure in thinking that they won’t be found out and ostracized socially, potentially endangering their jobs.

And, they’re cowards for doing it. If I showed up to protest something today, I’d do it with my bare face. If you’re not willing to face the music for your views, stay home.

I think you must have missed, or misread, post #15. I said I could easily see it being some of both. The protesters pretty much said so. It’d be a lot easier for me to declare it more likely an intimidation tactic if they were protesting a religion renowned for their tolerance and pacifism in the face of vocal critics.

I see. Is there any evidence that the particular mosque where the protest was held is tied to Islamic extremism? Because you’d presumably take that into account too rather than just assuming a billion people all hold the same views.

Hell, Muslims in Michigan gathered to protest against Islamic terrorism this weekend, and internet conservatives are pissing themselves in fear over it.

Muslims outside a church with guns would probably get some of them wanting to act out their Turner Diaries fantasies.

I don’t know anything about the mosque. It seems unlikely.

Who’s assuming anything about the views of a billion people? Are you saying I am?

No. I’m saying the protestors who you are sort of taking up for would have before deciding they were in danger without guns and masks.

I don’t follow. The protesters wouldn’t have to believe that all billion Muslims throughout the world would try kill them for insulting Islam, to want to defend / protect themselves. They only need to believe that a small fraction of Muslims are capable of extreme violence when their religion is insulted to take the view that they ought to be prepared in case it happens, right?

For exactly the same reason the Klan wore masks. For the same reason “anarchists” at leftist protests wear masks.

Carrying a weapon while wearing a mask should be a crime, and it is lots of places.

The same people wearing masks here will tell you letting someone wear a burqa is a security risk… Lol.

Well hopefully these same guys will protest bank fees in front of First National and we can see how that works out.

And yet, it’s legal to wear a burqa here in the US and it happens all the time. Because some nuts think something I’m unsure why that is a big deal. Because some paranoid nuts protested in front of a mosque while armed is a bit more concerning, though if they weren’t breaking any laws then it’s a fairly minor concern. I have to admit I’m a bit more concerned about the throwing a head of a pig at a mosque in, IIRC, Philadelphia yesterday than a hand full of nuts in Texas protesting in front of a mosque. The most concerning thing, to me, is how quickly people give into irrational fears. But then again, you see it literally ever time there is a mass shooting in the US…just, this time, the ones going ape shit are not gun control types but loony folks paranoid about Islam and Muslims.

Lol?

They need to believe that some of that small fraction attends that mosque, yes.

Leftist anticapitalist protesters also wear masks
