No matter what the car, a 1976 Ford has to rip though it like it was tinfoil.
The way the car was parked in the barn with the headlights pointing out and the open gullwing door matched the illustration of the UFO on the comic book the farmboy showed his father.
BTW, how about a roadable plane like this one? Exotic looking enough.
Segway
I came here to post that.
“You built a time machine out of Pontiac Aztec?”
I’m thinking a modified F-350 truck.
Chevy Volt.
Sadly but realistically, if they remade that movie, the car would be whichever one offered the most in product placement fees.
Maybe a Hummer H1?
You either use a brand new 1929 Duesenberg Model J or a 2038 Corvette. That’s how you prove your time machine is legit.
Holy cow. I thought I was so clever to come up with that and it was already said…
ETA: Twice!
Problem with the Pontiac Aztec lies in the fact that it was an aesthetic nightmare. The DeLorean was unique, aesthetically pleasing and sort of desirable to some. The Aztec was just a big bundle of ugliness that interested very few and died quietly. No one would want that thing for a time machine, especially not movie-goers.
80 mph.
I dunno. The company owner who drove his Segway off a cliff might have reached 88 mph…
It was only 30 ft. He would have reached about 29.7 mph in freefall.
The car’s name is spelled “Aztek”.
Just a side note:
A few years ago, when I actually Followed people on Twitter (or even paid attention to my account), my favorite (Followed) celebrity was Nathan Fillion. At one point, for a period of time measured at least in weeks (don’t really remember), he was really revved up over this tiny car company called Arcimoto, and their electric two-seater (one in front, one behind). Watched a few videos of him and his Castle co-star, Jon Huertas (plays Esposito on the show), taking turns driving it around. What’s funny to me is this thread made me think of that “car,” so I went looking for it. I find it mildly amusing that there’s no sign of Fillion that I saw on the company’s website, or of Huertas, but their co-star on Castle, Stana Katic, is shown in a video driving the two-seater I remember. Guess she was a more desirable view for the video. heh
And I see now that it’s advertising itself as a three-wheeled motorcycle, although the two seats are now side-by-side and it’s sporting a traditional steering wheel. And further search of the site turns up this page of Fillion and Huertas having fun.
Carry on.
Fighting my own ignorance: the two seats are still tandem – one in front, one behind. Picture fooled my old eyes.

I want that so much!
Oh, and the vehicle is nice, too.
To quote the Bard:
…by any other name, it would still smell like shit.
But at least you’d have the built in tent to sleep in wherever (when ever) you end up.
