What would happen if I ate the whole contents of a bottle of children's vitamins?

These things are so addictive and they are sweet like candy and after 5 I couldn’t stop eating, so I ate 10, and now I ate 15. I think I’ll stop here, but what if I ate the whole cotents of this bottle of 300?

Most minerals and fat-soluable vitamins will collect in your body above healthy levels causing a whole host of problems. Don’t be fooled about those children’s vitamins. I think the dose per ingredient in one children’s pill is typ. 1/2 that of one adult pill. - Jinx

Yes, too much of the fat-soluble vitamins like vitamin A will cause organ failure and death. Don’t overdo it.

Not to mention a raging case of diahrrea from all that Vitamin C.

Go get some Sweet-Tarts instead, mm’kay?

Assuming these vitamin tablets contain iron, I think the iron would kill you before the vitamin A even gets started. According to my old nutrition textbook, iron is the second-leading cause of accidental poisoning in young children, behind only aspirin. Each pill typically contains around 15 mg of elemental iron. Small children have died of iron toxicity after consuming as few as 6-12 vitamin tablets*. Adults being larger, it would take more than that. I am not a doctor, so I can’t tell you if the 15 tablets you took would do any damage. I suggest you call your doctor and ask. The figures on this page suggest 15 tablets is probably not enough to do do much harm to a healthy adult. Taking 300 tablets in a day or over a a short period is another matter entirely. That would give you in a potentially lethal dose.

"Food is the best source from which to derive necessary vitamins and minerals, but there are times when it is wise to supplement your diet with vitamin and mineral pills. And while it may be tempting to take more than one a day, too many vitamins can be as dangerous as not getting enough. Too much vitamin A, for example, can cause liver damage. In rare cases, people can even die from vitamin and mineral poisoning.

What should I do? (Emergency Treatment)

Call your local poison control center, hospital emergency room, or family physician for instructions. Be prepared to tell what kind of vitamins you have taken and the number. Do not induce vomiting unless a medical professional instructs you to do so.

Vitamin A will cause some REALLY nasty birth defects. Do a google search for Accutane to see what it can do.

I, for one, would enjoy some candy that tasted just like flintstones vitamins. I mean, hey, I enjoy sweetarts as much as the next guy, but there’s just something about a flintstones vitamin. Mmm, chalky.

I made a call to poison control about this very subject not so long ago. My son ate a good quarter bottle of vitamins. Those gummy vitamins are tasty! Good enough to entice a kid to pull a chair up to the counter and help himself.

Basically, once they learned they didn’t have loads of Vitamin A in them, and no iron, they said no big deal, just don’t give the kid any additional vitamins for a few months.

Imagine that, I thought we were going to need major interventions.

Obviously it depends on the formula of the vitamins.
