No, I don’t need answer fast. I work in a factory that makes seed plugs. We use soy lecithin to keep dirt from sticking to the molds and trays. Some of the guys like to try to dare each other to fill a soda bottle partway with lecithin and drink it. So far nobody has. We have 55 gallon drums full of this stuff, and they are all marked “food grade”. If you drank 10-12 ounces of this stuff, what would happen, assuming it was clean?
EDIT: I am asking about drinking it straight, because that is what my co-workers dare each other to do.
I’m guessing that you might also be “clean”, and not in a good way.
Probably be perfectly prepped at least one sick day and a colonoscopy.
From the first MSDS I Googled:
From a MSDS
Seems some significant swelling is expected.
When I worked in a feed mill, we used food grade lube to grease the pellet mills. I wouldn’t recommend eating that, either. Food grade just means it won’t be poisonous if it gets into something edible, not that it won’t make you sick.
People take it as “health” supplement

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS FROM TAKING LECITHIN SUPPLEMENTS?
Most people do not feel any side effects when taking 10 to 30 grams per day of lecithin supplements. (Zeisel, 332) But in higher doses, lecithin supplements could cause gastrointestinal problems, diarrhea, weight gain, a rash and headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and/or a “fishy” body odor.
Probably the liquid is made up with lots of water so its not so far above 30 grams to be sure to be a problem. Depends if the person is a big eater or not as to whether they notice… There’s lecithin in foods anyway. If someone is not eating much then the lecithin would be a higher % in the intestines and make perhaps change/affect the flora .
There are references to lecithin on “hottoincreasesemen dot com”. Apparently it increases the volume, and possibly the range, of ejaculation. If your coworkers ingest a large amount, I recommend you maintain a safe distance while dialing 911.
If that’s true, wouldn’t a 1-900 number be better for them?
Assuming they had the problem in hand.
Given the constituents, I would concur with GaryM and SeaDragonTattoo and guess that the effects would be similar to drinking a glass of pure vegetable oil. If you can keep it down, it isn’t going to hang about all that long, so don’t go too far from a toilet. The digestive system really doesn’t like big lipid overloads, and will pretty quickly decide it is time to expel, and to expel quickly.
Avoiding vomiting is probably related to the issue of vomiting any non-polar liquid - if you inhale any things can get can get bad.
If you chow down some comfortably small dose of the stuff each day, but then gradually increase the amount over some period of time, will you digestive system adjust to the increasing dosage? If you gave yourself a sufficient adjustment regimen, could you eventually guzzle the stuff by the pint or quart? If so, you could take up your buddies on that dare.
