What would it take to get notifications of cookie acceptance on websites to STOP?

Why do we need to be reminded to accept the cookie or privacy policy of lots of websites? I, as I’m sure many of you, find the pop-ups very annoying especially when it’s an invasive pop-up on the screen which you can only get rid of if you accept the policy.

We KNOW that for each site we visit there are going to be cookies we have to accept, and we know that we might get targeted advertising but we take that risk with each site we visit, so why do we have to be constantly reminded of it?

It would take the EU amending or rescinding the ePrivacy Directive that requires consent before writing any files onto your computer. It’s been in place since 2002, but with the passage of the GDPR sites are taking it more seriously.

Yeah, stupid bureaucrat politicians are at it again. Suppose they made a law that all browsers just tell you before you visit any websites at all that cookies will be used? Then website owners can stop? Easier to enforce, too. And it still does fuck all for anyone, so it’s good to know you still get nothing done with my idea as you do with the current system.

The last time I checked I (along with most of the world) don’t live in the EU. Considering how Amazon video, Netflix, YouTube, The BBC, etc. are easily able to restrict streaming content to people who live in countries where it’s not authorized, it shouldn’t be too difficult to send the notifications only to IPs from EU nations.

You don’t live in the EU but your data may. And/or the person running the website you are visiting and writing cookies to your computer may be in the EU - it’s they who are regulated in this matter, not you. Or they may have other reasons for wishing to comply with EU standards.

Which suggests that the answer to your question may be “stop vising websites operated by people who are subject to, or who are anxious to comply with, EU data privacy standards”.
