no, you are wrong. I don’t have a particular problem with them doing it on the pitch as part of their own warm-up. Nothing stopping them and I wouldn’t want to. I think they are being indulged by their insistence that they get do it at a point in the official proceedings that suits them best. What I’ve said is exactly in line with amanset’s comments
I don’t think there is any need to play a race card here. This is nothing to do with race and it poisons the well somewhat to bring it up.
They’ve been indulged because one of the few times someone wanted to do something else they refused to do it in public. They’ve been indulged because people have just let them do it because they get all upset if they don’t get to do it on exactly their terms.
And the hissy fit is a sign of their sense of entitlement.
This isn’t rocket science. Anyway, just to say it again, the Haka doesn’t really bother me. I’m a Rugby guy, I started playing at junior school and, hell, I grew up in Warwickshire, going to school just outside Rugby. Rugby’s in my blood. But that doesn’t mean I can’t see a bit of hypocrisy here and there. What I have posted here is more in reaction to a certain Kiwi’s amusing overreaction.
Fair enough, that aspect of it holds particular significance for you. My concern would be if race/culture gets used as tool for shutting down any valid criticism of a practice.
Not that tall a poppy though is it? You’ve reached as many RWC finals as France, England and Australia, You’ve won the same number as the aussies and sithifriker.
You have a really good rugby team (and consistently good) but that makes you a useful yardstick to be measured by, not a source of jealousy, what a strange notion.
And…I’m finding it increasingly amusing that you don’t answer the simple question I keep putting to you. Even more amusing is that you don’t even acknowledge the fact that I’ve asked you, quality evasion.
I’ll not stop trying though, I’ll even simplify the question.
“would you be happy for the haka to be done during the warm-up time out on the pitch and for the anthems to be the last thing done before kick-off. If not…why not?”
Gives that you’re the person who once claimed it was deeply offensive to use the term “kiwi” to refer to the fruit known in most of the English-speaking world as, well, a “kiwi,” you may wish to consider the possibility that you are a little too sensitive.
It would feel “wrong” to me…
The Haka is a challenge - it feels out of place to do it before the anthems -
it feels more natural to do it immediately before the game starts
And like I have said many many times - and like many other teams do - if you have a similar history and culture - you are more than welcome to respond to the haka -
If you wanna don bells and do a morris dance have at it…
Oh, that was rugby? I honestly thought it was soccer or Australian Rules football or something. I had no idea rugby was a thing outside of prep schools.
I still think our tradition of hot women in skimpy outfits talking smack is superior.
You should just be thankful that we allow you to play our sport. Maybe we’d have dominated one of yours if you had the ability to come up with one of your own.
