What would your papal name be?

Frances as it’s my middle name. Which I hate.

Except for the I it looks like you won.

As the conclave is due to start soon, time to resurrect this zombie.

I’d be torn between Leo XIV and Thomas.

ETA: cjepson won the last naming while etv78 won the Conclave honorable mention.

I would take the name, “Pope Elizabeth the First”, because she was the greatest queen EVER!

hhhhm, rocco? or lucifer (yes, there are 2 italian st. lucifer)? adam?

there are millions of names to choose. i do hope the new pope will go for one that hasn’t been used numerous times.

I’d pick one of the names that have been used exactly once before, so I’m not totally bucking tradition but not picking one of the overused names either:

Agatho
Anacletus
Anicetus
Anterus
Caius
Conon
Constantine
Cornelius
Dionysius
Donus
Eleutherius
Eusebius
Eutychian
Evaristus
Fabian
Formosus
Francis
Hilarius
Hormisdas
Hyginus
Lando
Liberius
Linus
Marcellinus
Mark
Miltiades
Peter
Pontian
Romanus
Sabinian
Severinus
Silverius
Simplicius
Siricius
Sisinnius
Soter
Symmachus
Telesphorus
Valentine
Vigilius
Vitalian
Zachary
Zephyrinus
Zosimus

Lando II. However I would answer to either “Calrissian” or “Molari” (even though it’s misspelled for the latter).

Dorfl.

Adrian VII might be an interesting choice considering
Adrian IV was the only English pope; Adrian VI was the only Dutch pope
Adrian VI was the last non-Italian pope for over 450 years and was the last pope to use his birth name
Adrian VI attempted reform but in such little time before his death could not overcome the inertia of the Church.

I know this is replying to a Zombie thread, but since it was bumped..

The correct name would be Pope Peter, the Roman. And yes, I would choose it for the maximum trolling that will be made to the ones following that discredited prophecy.

I would just keep my birth name. Despite being the name of an apostle, it has never been used for a pope.

Pope Melvin here. That’s really my middle name, and it has a nice ring to it.

A nod to my German ancestors:

Pope Gosthaviesel

Jackmedici I.

Motto: either “Heads Will Roll” or “Try The Soup”.

*Pope Dionysus II is also a swell name.

Serious answer: I chose “Francis” as my confirmation name, for his connection to nature, but since then, I’ve decided that I have more affinity for either Thomas or Augustine. Thomas because, like any true scientist, he laid out his standard of evidence, and then when he got that evidence, he accepted it. And Augustine was a serious Deep Thinker, even if rather long-winded, and the Patron Saint of Cosmology for good reason.

Pope Augustine would be an awesome name.

Augustine was also the guy who prayed, “Give me chastity and continency, only not yet.”

Pope John Thomas, the Leviathan, here.

At your service.

I can’t be the first to suggest Popey McPopeface can I?

Pope Popeye
