Two Sleepers of the World Unite!
I’d say from 1am to 9-10am, maybe. When I was into Diablo2 I’d stay up til 4am and sleep til noon, and I wrote most of my papers in the wee hours of the morning, but without an extra incentive to stay up I’m usually in bed before 2am. I also can’t sleep past noon unless I’m really, really exhausted or drunk. My mom always woke me up around 9am regardless of weekdays or weekends, and unfortunately it stuck.
I’m in the midst of one right now. 1am - 9am, approximately, seems to be the standard schedule.
4am-noon in the summer and 2am-10am in the winter.
I get about 4 hours a night. There was a great article on this in National Geographic years ago. A guy in a cave… My google-fu s not working right now.
About the same as the OP. When I was living in London for a long time we were going out at 11pm, getting home at 3am and waking at noon. We weren’t working and had no real commitments.
In the most extreme parts of the year, I’d sleep and raise with the sun; other than the two months closest to the solstices, I’d sleep 10pm-5am.
Yeah, I’m one of those morning persons. And yawn I’m shleeeppy at the hours when other folk are saying “wanna go to the bar?”
I’m a morning person, but I have no idea what my routine would be if I didn’t have obligations. In fact, I often wonder what retirement will be like - will I actually sleep past 6AM on a regular basis?? I’ll get back to you in 2016…
But, wouldn’t the O+ diet get monotonous after a while?
When I consulted and worked from home I had a schedule that I loved and I still worked a lot of hours.
I would get up around 10 AM, work for a few hours, go to lunch, work for a few hours, nap. Work for a few hours. Go to dinner or socialize and then work from about 10PM to 2AM. Many nights I didn’t go to dinner, so I got more hours of work in then. I also tended to keep this schedule on weekends, so I got plenty of hours of work in.
This worked nicely for me.
Now, I don’t know what I would do, but it would definitely include an afternoon nap.
9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
3 AM to 11:30 AM.
Same here. I hate waking up past 7am. I don’t remember the last time I did. I also wonder if I’ll change in my retirement. My Mom sometimes sleeps in till 8 I think.
I also wonder if this is a city/country thing. I live in the sticks. I do a lot of work on my house. Today, I am going to run into town and buy some lumber. The lumber yard closes at noon on Saturday. Not open Sunday.
So, I have to -
1 - Do a bit of measuring.
2 - Get ready, shower and such.
3 - Collect recycles for drop off as long as I’m going into town.
4 - Take into account the 1/2 hour drive.
I’ll then be driving to the next town to an auto parts store. Plumbing store too.
If I want to get anything done on weekends, I pretty much have to get up early. And, in fact, I need to get off the dope and get moving.
Bye.
midnight to 9 am barring unusual distractions, and having a good set of curtains. Otherwise, midnight to whenever the sun gets bright enough to wake me. ( 7 am-on summer, 8-am on winter.
Midnight to 8 works really well for me. Which means that I don’t really fit in with my workplace’s first shift (up too early) or its second (up too late because they work 4 ten-hour days). I try to go to bed earlier, but it’s tough…I finally got myself adjusted to go to bed at 10:30, and then they told us that no one on first shift could come in later than 7:30 (I used to go in at 8). Gaaaaaaaah!
I was so tired last night that I went to sleep at 9:15. Woke up at 8.
About 4am to noon.
For the record, I often call my grandmother at 11:00 at night or later; she’s reliably up until midnight, and usually past that. She’s 85.
Another one for the 1-2am to 9-10am slot. Every time I’m off or unemployed, or heck, just long weekends when I’m working days, I revert to this schedule.
Unemployed right now, and I got to sleep about 1am and wonderfully slept until 10:38am this morning. Felt really good.
I’d worked third shift before, and had no real problems other than dealing with noisy neighbors and unhelpful family calling me when they should know that I’m sleeping. But I’d never worked second shift before and was adamantly opposed to doing it - until my last job when I wasn’t given a choice. Then I saw how well it worked with my sleep schedule, and I was hooked. As long as I could (and did) have Friday nights off so that I at least had one evening to see other people and maintain friendships.
1-2 AM to 9-10 AM here as well. I just plain can’t function before about 9:30 or 10, pretty much regardless of when I went to bed or woke up. I get to work every day at 8:15 because that’s when they want me there, but I get pretty much jack and shit done before ten most days.
My senior year of college I didn’t take a single class before 11AM; not coincidentally, I got GREAT grades senior year, and it was the only year I had anything approaching an acceptable rate of attendance. On top of that I was in the best shape of my life, because I was never too tired to work out, or too tired to cook a real/healthyish dinner. 2-10 is just such a higher quality of life thing that I definitely hope I can get a job that will let me do it some day (in fact, all other things equal, I’d take significantly less money for it).
I am a night owl too. I have no problem going to bed at 6 or 7 am, but then I tend to sleep all day until 4 or 5 PM. I think we’re just a different breed of people. Ever done grocery shopping at 3 AM? You see some pretty yooo-neek people there.
Unfortunately, I have a shirt and tie job which requires my presence at 8 AM SHARP! Ick. So I also just pretty much jack around and smoke cigarettes until about 10 when my mind finally catches up to the rest of the world.
I prefer 11pm or midnight to about 10 or 11am. I’ve been on a 8pm to 5 am schedule for sleeping for so long, I tend to wake up on my own around 6:30.
On weekends, I tend to go to bed at 9pm or so, get up around 7, take a nap from 1 - 4 or so, and then back to bed at 9.
I wish I could get 12 hours every night. Bliss.
