OK, the idea’s obsolete now, but when research was going on in the mid-late 80s, it sounded like a great idea. I never heard why we never saw it in production.
For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, THOR-CD was a writeable CD developed by Tandy corporation (parent company of Radio Shack). They kept promising and promising and then never actually delivered. Of course, now that we have 100 CD-RW drives and .25 CD-R blanks, it’s a moot point, but this was 10-15 years ago.
