That which does not kill me postpones the inevitable.
I think you’d do better with a gnomon.
(I know, it’s overly literal and not at all in keeping with the spirit of the thread, but how often do you get to trot out the word “gnomon”?)
Hmm. This may yet be a half-whoosh, as I was making a specific quote from a specific movie.
I often think of this gnomonclature while gamboling in the wabe.
Like the old saying goes: gnomon is an island.
My personal spin on the saying is “that which does not make me stronger, kills me.” Maybe not literally, but I can’t think of many things that are intellectually or spiritually deadlier than letting yourself get in a permanent rut and never trying to learn or experience anything new.
Come on folks, this is not exactly rocket surgery!
I used to say this as a joke. I’ve said it so much, however, now I have to think really hard before I say it so I get it right:
A dollar late and a day short.
Christopher Reeve?
I really shouldn’t do this…
What’s the difference between Michael Jackson & Christopher Reeve?
Michael’s gonna walk!
Back to lunkhead sayings for a minute:
I remember overhearing a (dumb-as-a-boot) teammate of mine in a frisbee game holding forth on sociopolitical theory. I only caught the last half of his first statement. It should be noted that the following exchange took place comfortably within the good ol’ US of A, among an all-Merkin circle.
Him: “…becoming so Americanized.”
Me (walking up): “Oh? Who?”
Him: “Us. We are, man. It’s disturbing.”
Me: “You’re a goddamned idiot, Josh.”
Yeah, I know what you mean.
My favorite twist on this saying of old Freddie’s is:
That which does not kill me makes me stranger
“See this twitch? It’s from something that didn’t kill me.”
That’s a keeper.
You can use it like cash, which is just as good as money.
whatever doesn’t kill you is probably just waiting to torment you.
And I shouldn’t continue it:
What’s the opposite of Christopher Reeve?
Christopher Walken
To actually attempt to give some meaningful contribution…well, to at least continue the fun:
Whatever doesn’t kill you is probably coming around for another pass.
Or you’re ignoring or denying it…
I don’t agree with the woman you overheard eve.
That which kills you can make you stronger before it kills you.
That which does not kill me only makes me more irritable
“That which kills me makes me DEAD, DEAD, DEAD!”
one I claim ownership to (created lo those many years ago in Highschool).:
‘If all the world’s profundities were put in a box, that box would then be stuffed’…
ok, I got nothing…
