Tengu, if you want a spoiler for the first half of A League of Their Own:

The Watchtower got battered by a Wandering Plot Device–er, “superstring”. Its power was drained to a critical level, and its orbit was destabilized. They had to recharge fast, before the orbit decayed too far (I presume they use an EM tether system to stabilize the station, otherwise this makes no sense). Batman enlisted Static, and Gear talked them into bringing him along. The small fragment that remained of Brainiac that was left was contained in a shield inside the Watchtower, and escaped into the emergency systems when the power outage momentarily disrupted the containment field.

Oh…d’oh. Right.

Now that you mention that, I remember that Static and, IIRC, Batman made reference back to that when Static drained the power core in order to power Braniac down. I had no idea why the Watchtower’s power was down to need Static there, but I should have remembered that that’s why he was there.

I think the reason Supes’ (and WW’s) absence jarred me was that Batman was there and YTV showed those episodes the same day they showed the JLA episodes concerning Superman’s apparent death.

Y’know, the ones where Toyman sends him thousands of years in the future to when Vandal Savage was the only human left alive, and Supes does the Kal-El the Barbarian schtick.

Those made a big deal out of the fact that Batman was an unofficial, peripheral member. So the ‘auxillary’ team was there, but two members of the main, official team weren’t.

Static Shock isn’t shown on YTV, right? Sounds like a good show. I love Justice League and Teen Titans! I spoiled myself by reading the above spoiler, but I don’t think it matters.

Who would believe that Superman was really dead? Or that he wouldn’t be resurrected somehow?

That said, the first episode of that storyline really moved me. I was very close to becoming teary-eyed. Especially seeing how things affected Wonder Woman.

I’m trying to picture the Static/Teen Titans crossover Batman hinted at in one episode, but the clash of animation styles blocks it out.

That was just a teaser. It has yet to happen. The team that does Static wanted to do a Titans crossover, but Titans wasn’t ready to air, so they did the Justice League crossover instead. I was kinda hoping that Static and Gear would appear in the “Winner Take All Episode” of Teen Titans (the guys Titans get teleported to a gladiator contest with four other teen heroes and Gizmo for some reason). A Cyborg/Gear contest would be awesome as would Static/Aqualad (water conducts electicity, but water shorts out Static). Oh well.

I have a cite for all that, but I can’t remember where it is…

Yeah, as far as I know it was just those two episodes. I may have just missed it, but I spend many a Saturday morning watching Vortex (although the host annoys the living bejezus out of me. Why, oh why couldn’t they just have had Sugar do it? Mmm. Sugar.), and have not yet caught another episode of Static Shock, and it’s not listed on the YTV site.

Is weird. Maybe they were testing the waters, see if they should bother picking it up, or something.
