Hmm, I hated the Folger’s Colombian, but liked the 8 O’Clock. The Consumer Report site rated them both at the top. Not sure what to make of that.
I think Folgers is an abomination so I say stick with Eight O’Clock. Of course I only like the Colombian, I avoid the other varieties so, YMMV.
I’ll second yosemitebabe’s post and agree that Trader Joe’s has good coffee for very little money.
I’m not aware of any Trader Joe’s in these parts, alas.
The grocer here has a nice selection of coffee beans.
Prices vary, but in the 3-4 dollar/lb. range you can get some good coffee. Get a 1/2 pound of 2-3 different types and blend the coffee YOU like.
The Brookeshire’s here even has a grinder available next to the coffee beans…enjoy!
Do what I did when I was poor and wanted coffee. Get a job at a coffee shop
I’m adding 8 O Clock etc to my list.
I actually just got some Folgers (I know, I know!) Gourmet Blend or something like that, a dark roast coffee that is pretty good.
My old standbys are Yuban and Chock Full O Nuts. Good coffe, low prices. MMmmm.
My sister is very particular about her coffee. She buys her beans at Costco and grinds it at home. They roast their own coffee in the store by her house. I think it’s far less expensive than Starbucks or that ilk.

Yuban is pretty good for pre-ground canned grocery store coffee. FWIW, coffee prices seem to be coming down generally; I recently bought two pounds of that for $4.
Unfortunately the coffee countries are really hurting, see.
In my experience, Costco’s coffee (which I buy in whole-bean form, and grind at home) is both very good and very reasonably priced.
For espresso, try El Pico or Pilon
A contradiction in terms.
