I got laid off so money’s tight, and I’ve been cutting expenses. Unfortunately, I spoiled myself with $7 a pound coffee, stuff like Starbucks brand.
When my last batch of Starbucks ran out, I bought Folger’s Columbian, and now I see why I’ve been drinking Starbucks. Yuck.
Anyone recommend a good cheap coffee?

Most supermaket store brand morning blends and french roast beans are passable if fresh gound just before using. These are often on sale for $ 3.00 a lb or less.
Stewart’s Columbian. My husband drinks it all the time (and loves it) and he’s cheap!

Awwww, forgot the obligatory News Radio reference:
Bill: Chock-Full-O-Nuts? They ought to call it Chock-Full-O-Flavor!

Chock-Full-O-Nuts doesn’t actually have nuts in it, does it?

Community Dark Roast. But then I subscribe to the Dissolve the Spoon method of coffee-making.

Maxwell House Slow Roast. Tastes like a much more expensive coffee, IMHO

I’ve heard 8-o’clock whole bean is pretty good, but never tried it myself.
Not only that, but bolts , too!
Do you have Melitta brand (the company that makes the filters) there? It’s never over CAN$4 here and is quite good.
Too bad you don’t have President’s Choice down there (premium brand available in many Canadian chains). It’s very good; in fact, I’m drinking a nice strong cup of it right now.
can you get fairly traded beans?
the quality is usually very good, and the growers get paid more.
i’m very fond of the 5065 instant.

I just picked some up, and it is pretty good! Lots better than that Folger’s swill, at least.

Eight O’clock Colombian (in a brown bag). Publix & Piggly Wiggly carry it. It’s about $3.50 a bag. Mmmm it’s so good and the price can’t be beat.

You might - we get President’s Choice brand stuff at the store-that-is-owned-by-Kroeger’s-but-has-not-changed-it’s-name.
Never tried the coffee though.
I really like Maxwell House Master Blend, but I’ve never had Starbucks, so I can’t really compare them.

Revtim, do you have Albertson’s/Jewel stores down there? They routinely have the big bags (39 oz.) of 8 O’Clock columbian on sale for $6.99. Or the smaller ones at 2 for $5.00.

I do shop at Albertson’s, I’ll keep an eye out for that big bag of 8 O’Clock. Thanks!
I guess there are no Trader Joe’s in Florida? I don’t buy coffee myself, but Trader Joe’s has lots of exotic blends, and TJs is known for their reasonable prices…

But also garnering a very good score were two more economical full-caffeine regular-roasts: Folgers 100% Colombian, a ground coffee, and Eight O’Clock Bean Original 100% Colombian. Each costs 7 cents a cup or less. Among decaffeinated regular roasts, Chock Full o’ Nuts Cafe Blend 100% Colombian (9 cents a cup) and Eight O’Clock Bean 100% Colombian (8 cents) stood out.
