What's a good steak sauce similar to Lea and Perrins Bold Steak Sauce?

I rarely eat steak but have always kept a bottle of Lea and Perrins steak sauce handy whenever I do because I love the stuff. Unfortunately I ran out this week and when I went online to see where I can purchase more not only do Amazon nor Walmart have it I keep seeing news article it was discontinued in 2022 due to supply shortages and apparently hasn’t been seen back since.

I’ve tried A-1 whenever I go out and eat steak at a restaurant and while it’s okay it doesn’t quite have the savory flavor of Lea and Perrins Bold Steak Sauce. And don’t tell me to make my own because as I said I don’t eat steak enough that by the time I ate it again the home made stuff would most likely go bad.

It seems to be available as a 3-pack on Walmart.com…for $66…

Even for a 3-pack, that’s pretty expensive… I hear it’s a really good steak sauce, so I dunno, it might still actually be worth it. If it’s so good, though, why would it be discontinued?

As for similar sauces, unfortunately I’m not a steak sauce expert as I almost never really use steak sauce since I believe a well-cooked steak doesn’t really need any sauce on it anyway. I did find a webpage that lists other good steak sauce brands so start from there I guess:

And a crap steak needs ketchup.

My favorite steak accompaniment is Argentine chimichurri sauce.

It does need to be made fresh, though, and is heavy on the garlic. I made some recently substituting foraged garlic-mustard for the garlic and it was outstanding.

I’m not sure what Lea and Perrins Bold Steak Sauce tastes like, but I find HP Sauce (British brown sauce) to be a cross between A-1 and Worcestershire sauce. I use it on eggs and on chips (at the fish and chips place, so “fries”).

Years ago I used to sometimes use Peter Lugar Steak sauce. I don’t know if it’s still made, but I found out that I like the taste of steak better then steak sauce and really don’t use any anymore.

Also (years ago) I found Bulleye BBQ sauce the only BBQ sauce that works with steak, but they got bought up and the recipe changed and it’s now the same sweet crap as every other one, but perhaps that will give you another avenue to explore and with the one you like being ‘bold’ it may work with the right BBQ sauce.

I generally opt for horseradish with meat. A-1 is a’'ight with me, but much sweeter than necessary. I have tried Tiger Sauce, I use it for a change of pace sometimes. Some people really like Chimichurri, I don’t know why, it seems to hide flavor more than enhance it. That’s the problem I have with most of them really, something spicy to wake up my taste bugs helps, sweet and savory stuff just hides the incredible delicious taste of meat.

I only use horseradish on prime rib or a roast beef sandwich. I don’t know why it wouldn’t be equally good on steak except that when I’m eating a steak, as you said, I prefer the taste of the meat itself with just a little salt and pepper.
