I seem to remember using a tiny bit of shaving cream back in the day, in a pinch.
Egg white, for extra crunchy.
Anything with beeswax in it.
No hair gel.
Lemon Juice.
Might bleach the hair a little bit. We used to spray water mixed with lemon juice and a bit of H2O2 in the summer for “highlights.”

It seemed to work even without the H202, just not as well (and was stickier), so I’d say yes.
