If an American who MAY (not certain) have an opportunity to travel to Britain next year wanted to purchase advance theater (oops, this is Britain, make that “theatre”) tickets in advance, is there a British equivalent of Ticketmaster that he could use to purchase those tickets?
Or, for those who travel in the U.K. more regularly, is there a better way for tourists to purchase such tickets?
We have ticket master too, for our sins.
As to theatre tickets, it depends on the show. If you want tickets to the sold out shows such as Mama Mia, Lion King etc it’s best to book directly with the theatre as far in advance as you can.
There are agencies that sell these tickets at a hefty mark-up, but if you’re planning far enough ahead you should be able to get tickets for just about everything.
(BTW I am making the assumption you are talking about London, it may be different elsewhere)
If you are interested in just sampling some of our theatre, a good way to do this is to go to the Ticket Booth in Leicester Square which sells off unsold tickets at half price on the day of the performance.
If you could be a bit more specific in what you’re after I’ll be able to give more specific advice.

You could always try ticketmaster

The rest of the world uses country based web addresses, with .com left for global organisations.
It is always interesting to find web sites such as Some guy’s homepage using a .com address
When in doubt, try the .co.country extension (uk = UK, fr = France, de = Germany, etc.,)

By all means use ticket master, but they aren’t as all pervading here as they are in the colonies.
Most venues operate their own box office.
