What's deal with zombies lately?

I thought the start of school would LESSEN them.

I agree! It’s almost as though there’s some kind of frickin’ conspiracy. Ancient threads being dredged up for no discernible reason. Maybe people are misreading the ebola virus thing somehow.

Same deal as the other eleventy-bazillion times this question has been asked.

My mistake. Obviously, there have been no shared plans to resurrect dead and buried threads for lulz. I think it must be the Google effect at play.

Thought so. Will reiterate, Googling this board more trouble than it’s worth. Cochrane, if you LIKE zombies, why post?

That one thread in particular puzzled me. The one started way back in '99 by a poster saying she was leaving for a week (but obviously never returned); why was it brought back? And met with such excitement? Its not like it was a new poster who resurrected the thread and it’s also not like it was brought back for ANY discernable reason. Not even a decent joke. I mean really, WTH?

I was commenting that this question must get asked every other week. How did you read any other meaning into it? I am typing English, aren’t I?

Inside joke among some of us.

Sometimes…and I don’t know if this was the case in that thread…a spammer will resurrect a thread. Then someone else comments on it. Then the mods come and remove the spam comment. If no one else had posted, the thread would sink back to obscurity…but since someone got in before the delete, it stays active.

No, no it hasn’t. In fact, it’s been a plus, because I find google searches a lot more helpful than the search engine here.

Who cares about zombies?

Note to self: bump 732714 August 31, 2024.

In this particular case, it wasn’t a spammer.

lol

Probably has to do with the forums that I moderate, but most of what I see are resurrections of old threads on Cecil columns. Those make perfect sense, someone is searching on a topic and gets here and doesn’t notice (or care) about the old date. Ditto Cafe Society, and the same reasons, someone is searching for discussion about some novel and ditto ditto. And those type of resurrections are OK.

Resurrection of a thread about someone leaving long ago, that makes no sense, I hope the mods closed it.

I try to edit an alert in the first post so folks are aware, and don’t start drafting responses to something someone said five years ago.

I got it.

I laughed. And we never did find out how her weekend was!

Care to let us in on it.

No. It’s best to keep it an inside joke.

I haven’t noticed any uptick in the number of zombies in GQ.

This “Zombie” craze is not unlike the “Godzilla” craze in that it reflects a commonly held fear. Godzilla, a metaphor for nuclear weapons. Zombies, a metaphor for Xenophobia. What is dangerous about Zombies is that it promotes us against them, that they are not human like us thinking. It is the same thinking that historically proceeds war (including civil) and genocides.
