My windows xp home crashed. I used a new copy of the OS to repair because I had a lot of stuff on the computer that I wanted to keep. After reinstalling, all the icons are still there, but most of the programs are said to no be no longer installed. All the parts seem to be there, but they just don’t work. Is there some simple way to get these back, or did I waste my money and are they gone forever?
How did you re-install XP?
Was it one of those factory recovery CD’s that came with your computer?
Was it Format and Recovery? Or just Recovery?
I assume that you didnt backup any info to another HD, CD-R, etc, before re-installing XP Home?
Did you repair or did you re-install? If you re-installed Windows over the last version you probably lost the links to the OS that were created when you installed the apllications. I know of no way to get them to work without re-installing the applications again.
It was with a MS XP disc, and what I asked it to do was repair, but it looked an awful lot like a reinstal. Surprisingly, some of the programs seem to still work, most don’t. I’m not sure if saved programs, songs, and pictures are gone or not. They seem to be, but I bet they are hanging around on the disc somewhere.
Easy to find out with a Search, use the file extension with an * ( eg.*.mp3 ) to Search for these types of files.
