What's going on May 10, 2008?

I saw a someone wearing a shirt today that said: “May 10, 2008” I couldn’t see if there was anything on the back or not.

If it matters, the shirt was blue with white text, and seen at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. It’s possible (but, I think, unlikely) that it actually said 2005, not 2008, but I still don’t know the significance of that date.

So, any idea?

It could easily be the graduation date for the freshman class.

Well I will have been a non-smoker for 7 years on that day. But I doubt somehow that anyone has made T-shirts for the occasion.

That will be my 28th birthday as well as the 74th anniversary of the public nazi book burnings and it would have been Fred Astaire’s 109th birthday.

I’d say Dewey Finn nailed it. According LMU’s Academic Calendar site, graduation is usually right around that date.

That will the date of my next date.

I thought of the graduation thing, but I doubt they’ve published any dates that far in advance. Maybe the person who designed the shirt just assumed they’d follow the same formula they always do (e.g. second Sunday in May, or whatever). Congratulations in advance to everyone else.

I will be exactly 3 years away from being eligible for Social Security.

And this page confirms it.

Assuming eligibility rules stay as they are?

Right.

My sister will be a college freshman in the fall, and my parents have already made hotel reservations for her graduation. So don’t count on them not planning that far ahead.
