what's my dog's name?

It’s hard to change a dogs name. Hes ten months old and already has an established name but we don’t like it and similar to the other dogs name. Any suggestions on how to chg the name. How,long will it take etc? I tried shiner for a couple days. Tried Pete for a couple. Now were on either grover or thunder. Those sound similar to his exiating name but different enough. I’m at the point of just going with his given name instead of trying to teach him new one. He’s a border collie. There are so many other things I can teach him. Why bother with name change

if you sing his name to him while petting him and when you give him treats and when you feed him, it won’t take long. I’ve done the same with cats that were several years old, and they “got” the new name in a matter of a couple weeks at most.

What was his name when you got him? Was it something difficult to pronouce like Prince’s symbol or A’kel!iabetciali’miumiii’angilacacacaca or what?

New guys name is gunner. Older dog name is Gus. I figured the gu names might be confusing. I still think thunder is the name. Unfortunately I’m not only one I need to convince

Having a name that is distinctly different than the other animals is smart. That way, when you call (or yell) they will know exactly which one you are talking to.

Maybe “Wind”, because he does look like a runner.

great suggestions everyone! Just wanted to get back to you to say thanks. It took a week of living together, and lots of ideas from everywhere, but we settled on Wily. It’s based on his cleverness in general, and the way his skinny butt is always trying to come up with new ways to corner the cats like roadrunners (and we like the name).
After the vet and others called him Willy, we added an E and it’s officially Wiley on the name tag.

Throatwarbler Mangrove

either that or Elvis

A lovely dog. Wiley suits him then. Congratulations on the new member of your crew.

Nope. Killer whales are named Kevin, all of them… Link

I like Ajax or Nike, he looks like he could outrun a missile…
Wiley! Great name! Should have read to the bottom of the thread!

And there’s a Wile. E on this thread.

He’s a lovely looking dog - glad he found a good home with you.
