Yep,
Tuba, the thing is looking lovely.
Thanks to all and this should be easy to get used to.

I do have a request though, (you knew that was coming, huh?) at the bottom of the page after reading all the posts, could you put a “top” button. Or, make the “Forum Jump” default to the forum that you are in (like they used to) so the “go” button takes you back to the forum page. Or, put the same links that are at the top of the page at the bottom so you can work your way back as far as you want.
I notice that if you use the “go to first unread post” link the browser’s “back” button needs 2 shots to get you back to the forum page.
This isn’t a big deal, but there seems to be several ways to implement getting quickly back to the forum list from the bottom of the page.
Well, I don’t think it qualifies as ‘food’ - but I can tell you, I had a heck of a time finding a straw small enough to fit in his nose!
Seriously, I just let one of the cats into the computer room - you’d be amazed at how fast a hamster can run when a hungry cat is looking at it!

You can use the slider bar at the right of the screen for this, too. Grab a-holt of it with the mouse and ride it up to the top. Yee-haw!

Um, I thought the default already WAS the forum that you’re in.

The links at the top of the page I think work their way through the thread from the top down, running through the posts in consecutive, chronological order. Even though we just upgraded from $150 software to $250 software, it still may not be possible to instruct the hamster to “go to the end of the thread, and work your way back till you find such-and-such a post.” It’s an interesting idea, though. Maybe if we ever get rich enough to afford a terrier to run in the wheel, instead of a hamster.

Here’s something I just learned myself–you don’t have to wait for the entire page to finish loading before you hit the Back button the second time. Give the browser a second or two to get its feet under it, and then click the button again.

You say this like it’s a bad thing…
Coosa– LOL! Everybody at this end inquired suspiciously, “What’s so funny?” They are SO paranoid…
Wow, 'Mama, scroll bars (that’s what they are called) and the Back button, those “Learning to use your PC” lessons are really paying off for you, aren’t they? I’m sure you’ll keep us posted on all the other fascinating discoveries you make as you work your way through them.
In the meantime, I was talking about hyperlinks, those convenient thingies that you click that helps you get around Web pages. I know I’m jumping ahead here, but work with me, OK? At the bottom of a long page, having a “Go to Top” link can be a real convenience. As is having other navigational links at both the top and the bottom of long pages.
That paragraph above about the $150 & $250 software and hamsters & terriers & wheels (whatever all that meant), I think started about the “Last Thread” and “Next Thread” links that, if you had noticed, were conveniently placed at both the top and bottom of the page. I, however, was talking about the other 2 links on the left side of the top of the page just above the thread title. They are the ones labeled “Straight Dope Message Boards” (which take you to the main Forum List page) and the one labeled “About This Message Board” (which take you to this forum’s main thread list page). They give you a nice refreshed list (which the “Back” button doesn’t). I would find it a convenience that, after reading all the way to the bottom of a long thread, those links were right there.
There was, however, some useful information in your post and that was that you thought the “Forum Jump” list box defaulted to the forum that you were in. That prompted me to check out what it looked like with Internet Explorer 5 as compared to Netscape 4.7 and found that IE5 did default where Netscape didn’t.
So, I’m going to go read through the Netscape vs Internet Explorer differences to see if it has been reported yet. In the meantime, keep up those studies, you are doing great. Computers are really great once you figure out how to use them.

waterj2 mentioned this a ways up there somewhere–when you change your sig line, it changes them in all your posts! Me no like!
For the most part, though, I’m pretty happy with the new SW (LOVE the preview!). Thank you Tuba and all the techs!!! Y’all rock!
