What's new, Atlas? (AI, Robotics and tech thread)

Spot me up!

Poor music choice (not very Jetson-y IMO) but a cool machine:

Looks like a lot of fun, but the video could have used fewer spinny drone shots.

I’d be a little concerned about the unprotected rotors, flying through the trees like that…

Aye; I noticed that as well; found myself thinking more than once that I’d want a bit more of a cage/buffer around me and the rotors.

But it does look like a blast and I’d prolly have a go if it was offered.

Their website shows in sitting in a driveway, with some front/rear “bumpers” that seem to offer some protection. I guess I’d be worried about hooking one on a branch or tree, but maybe they’re designed to be flexible. I guess the bumpers are optional–they might be more designed for safety around people (like in the residential area it shows).

Now you can take a few photos and create a 3D image that you can fly around.

I’m not sure these are the right folks to be doing this, but they’re doing it:

This is pretty cool:

Not Boston Dynamics level, but I can see a precursor of T-3000 here.

FreeSN: A Freeform Strut-node Structured Modular Self-reconfigurable Robot

From the Not Creepy At All Department,

Incidentally, earlier today, I heard about a startup called Sanas, which has technology to alter the accents of call center workers in real time.

What’s new, Unitree?
(Open-source robot software and hardware are what’s new.)

There’s a new Atlas, by the way.

One of the originals is now on display at the Museum of Science in Boston.
