1a) Sex Scene: Elvis Costello “She” (Preferably if I’m actually doing Hugh Grant. Sha. Right.)
Car Chase: Bare Naked Ladies, “One Week”
Stirring oratory at the end of the film: Rush, “Mission”
Pensive moment while you ponder the deeper meaning of life while staring at the tide coming in: Little River Band, “Cool Change”
That moment in the film when you’re parked in front of your ex-love’s house: Nazereth - either “Love Hurts” or “Hair of the Dog” or maybe J. Gile’s Band, “Love Stinks” (if you’re going for humorus!)
Action scene: Iron Maiden, “Where Eagles Dare”
Scene in which you help the juvenile delinquent crippled orphans fix up the Orphanarium, thus teaching the kids the value of teamwork, and teaching you to believe in hope again, or some such tripe: Rush, “Everyday Glory”
Grace - who refrained from picking Rush for EVERY song, just because she knows how badly it annoys not Rushians.
1a) Sex Scene - “Gett Off” - Prince and the New Power Generation
Car Chase (what a life you’ve led!) - “Call Me” - Blondie
Stirring oratory at the end of the film - “Love is Stronger Than Death” - The The
Pensive moment while you ponder the deeper meaning of life while staring at the tide coming in - “This Woman’s Work” - Kate Bush
That moment in the film when you’re parked in front of your ex-love’s house wondering where everything went wrong, sobbing gently, and holding a single rose, just to see the cold-hearted jerk walk out with another person on their arm (Even though in real-life, you ended up in custody for stalking, the movie plays out differently). Don’t they even care?
Well, shoot, since we’re doing some stalking, how about “Every Breath You Take” by The Police? Creepy song if ya think of it…
Action scene (kicking ass, taking names, that sort of thing) “Mirror in the Bathroom” - Already used in “Grosse Pointe Blank,” but it still kicks butt. EIther that or “London Calling” by The Clash.
Scene in which you help the juvenile delinquent crippled orphans fix up the Orphanarium, thus teaching the kids the value of teamwork, and teaching you to believe in hope again, or some such tripe. “Cloudbusting Day” - Kate Bush
I actually burned a whole album of contemporary songs that I felt described some aspect of my life last year. Let’s see if I can remember it. . .
1- “Summertime” - The Sundays (Because I was lonely)
2 - “Bittersweet Symphony” - The Verve (Because being lonely made me very depressed)
3- “Californication” - Red Hot Chili Peppers (Because I was living in Oregon after living all my life in Ohio, and much of the mythic stature California has east of the Mississippi was dissipated by the experience.)
4- “Pinch Me” - Barnaked Ladies (I hated the town I lived in)
5- “Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money in My Hand” - Primitive Radio Gods (Because I deeply missed the aimless mental wandering I was free to indulge in during my college days.)
6- “Hunger Strike” - Temple of the Dog (I was thinking a lot about how I could contribute to the world.)
7- “Sweet Surrender” - Sarah McLachlan (Reflecting my disillusionment and lack of focus after college)
Romance: First I Look At the Purse- J. Geils Band
Sex: ELP’s version of Fanfare for the Common Man
Chase scene: Hot Rod Lincoln- Cmdr Cody
Stirring oratory: Happy Trails-R. Rogers, D. Evans
Waves on the Beach: The Intro & The Outro, Bonzo Dog Doo-dah Band
Boyfriend’s House: (at last, a serious nominee) I Wish I Were Blind (B. Springsteen)
Action Scene: the Hokey-Pokey
(REAL VIOLENCE rarely lasts more than 2 bars)
Orphanage assistance: the perfect song has been written: “Easy Street” from Annie
Oooh, how did I miss this? I love this stuff. (And there’s some good stuff listed, too.)
Let’s see, S. Mussberger has a very nifty idea. Let’s run with that for a bit…

[sub]I can see my productivity shooting right down the tubes…[/sub]
Romantic interlude=there has been no romance in my life story, there probably wouldn’t be one…though if there were it might be Kellswater or Stolen Child by Loreena McKennitt…or Greensleeves…
1a) Sex Scene= probably like Romantic interlude though, if not, either Johnny Horton’s Battle of New Orleans or Howard Shore’s Lord of the Rings song The Bridge of Khazad-dum…
Car Chase= Transformers theme song? or Loup Garou by Tanglefoot
Stirring oratory= The Commodore’s Compliments by Tanglefoot
Pensive moment while you ponder the deeper meaning of life while staring at the tide coming in= the diddy Gollum was singing “Rock and pool, are nice and cool…” or Johnny Jump Up by Gaelic Storm
That moment in the film when you’re parked in front of your ex-love’s house sobbing gently, just to see the cold-hearted jerk walk out with another person on their arm= no sobbing, me gettin’ revenge The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia by Reba McIntyre…
Action scene= Everybody Was Kung-fu Fighting!!! & Jack the Green & Paddy’s Finger by Tanglefoot
Dream sequence of my dream elf Legolas= Sullivan’s Shivaree & The Midwife’s Dance by Tanglefoot
High school reunion= How do You Like Me Now …Is it Toby Keith?..I don’t remember…
Thank you so much! I’ve mentioned Andrew Bird a couple of times on this board, and had so far thought I was the only person who’d heard of him. That song was the first that popped into my mind when I saw the “pensive moment” bit.
Anyway, on to the answers:
Romantic interlude - Capricho Arabe, written by Tarrega, as performed by Christopher Parkening
1a) Sex Scene - Summertime Rolls by Jane’s Addiction (is that cheesy? Perhaps.)
Car Chase (what a life you’ve led!) - Hmm. Good question. Maybe Esperanza by Dick Dale. Oooh, no: It would the Clash’s version of Brand New Cadillac.
Stirring oratory at the end of the film - I hate stirring oratories at the end of the film. If I had to pick, though, it would the end of the third movement of Beethoven’s fifth symphony and the breathtaking transition into the fourth movement.
Pensive moment while you ponder the deeper meaning of life while staring at the tide coming in - Agreed. Wait by Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire (with lyrics from a poem by Galway Kinnell). Oh, how I love that song.
- I agree with Nailbunny that this is a (perhaps the) Tom Waits moment, but I’d choose either Blue Valentines or Blind Love.
Action scene (kicking ass, taking names, that sort of thing) - I Switched You by Frank Black. It is only barely possible to rock harder than this song, and only Minor Threat has accomplished it.
Scene in which you help the juvenile delinquent crippled orphans fix up the Orphanarium, thus teaching the kids the value of teamwork, and teaching you to believe in hope again, or some such tripe - Let It Snow, Dean Martin.
So many ood answers so far, but we’re missing an obvious scene:
The Joyous Rain Scene, as our hero realizes everything is going to be okay and looks to the skys with his/her arms outstretched as the rain pour down.
My choice for this scene? The Pogue’s “Fairytale of New York.” The slow part can be for the pensive moments, and then it can follow along as a gentle rain starts falling and the monsoon can start when the song really rocks into the duet section.
Another night’s excuse to go through tapes (and vinyl, kids) for stuff we haven’t listened to in months…

[sub]Well, not if I wanna get any work done, anyway. What with the air-guitar and desktop drumming I’ve got to do now…[/sub]
Romantic interlude–> “she’s my kind of rain” tim mcgraw…WHOOEE, enuff said! or “im with u” yah yah, i dont really like avril, but hey, perhaps even ** somewhere out there** tho im getting rather sick of the song
1a) Sex Scene–> “Makin’ Good Love” avant, no sumthing faster…maybe, no DEFINITELY “love me when im gone”-3 doors down, dammit: AND “control” puddle of mudd
Car Chase—> “alive” P.O.D, no questions asked
Stirring oratory at the end of the film- BLAH i duno
Pensive moment while you ponder the deeper meaning of life while staring at the tide coming in —> well if i could take some liberties and say that the pensive moment turned into a mad and angry rush i would have to say trickside’s ** freak out ** because umm that is required on my soundtrack
**“running away”- hoobastank **
Action scene (kicking ass, taking names, that sort of thing) faster part of drift and die, or hmmm maybe ** crawling** always gotta love linkin park
Scene in which you help the juvenile delinquent crippled orphans fix up the Orphanarium, thus teaching the kids the value of teamwork, and teaching you to believe in hope again, or some such tripe ** only hope** mandy moore, thanks to her we have songs like this that fit #7 all TOO WELL
Considering I’m from the mountains of Eastern Tennessee and am a classically trained Japanese swordsman - they do call me Jedi Clampett - my theme music is the bluegrass cover of Vader’s theme.
