What's so bad about Mitt Romney?

If we had enough liberalism, we wouldn’t be spending money we don’t have, we’d keep revenue up so that we would have the money to spend.

Yes. Clearly you are against capital spending.

I see what you did there.

not even the federal government can keep spending more forever. the money eventually comes out of our own pockets. a debt of 35,000 per person is excessive. or do you think the money faerie just gives em more?

No, it’s Republicans who believe in the money fairy. Democrats know darned well that the money comes from taxes.

So, what is your answer, to put one of the GOP religious sociopaths vying for the presidency in office? Because that certainly worked will before. Oh wait, it was an unmitigated disaster, wasn’t it?

I remain mildly surprised at the continued existence of Americans who think the Republican Party is the more fiscally responsible one, especially if those same Americans like to praise Reagan. That’s not just historical ignorance, it’s historical contrariness.

In my lifetime, the only times the federal government showed any sort of fiscal discipline was when there was a Democrat in the White House.

With the same logic, you can say “in my lifetime, the only times the federal government showed any sort of fiscal discipline was when Republicans controlled both the Senate and the House.”

I suppose you could say that but it wouldn’t be an accurate statement.

Unless something has changed recently nothing is “wrong” with him and he’ll be the republican nominee because he’s got a purty mouth.

[shrug] Any group that tries to live and think like the early Christians is a cult and should be treated as such.

Even if what you said was true (which it isn’t) what relevance does that have in a discussion of presidential candidates?

From the article Pennies from Heaven in the October 2011 Harper’s:

I really would not appreciate a POTUS who believes in a religion that includes such America-specific prophesies, especially from a guy who has flipped on every single issue other than his Mormonism. Especially in the context of a GOP that seems to be doing everything in their power to manufacture a constitutional crisis, or economic crisis, an unjust-war crisis, or you name it. And a GOP that has long humored the theocratic fantasies of other religious sub-groups for their own political advantage.

I want a guy who is interested in solving problems. Nobody on the GOP side comes across as that guy, even if Romney bears the closest resemblance (Mormonism aside, he is capable of behaving in an articulate and professional manner). I know, they talk about solving problems, but when the answer always involves things like no regulations on corporate giants, tax cuts for the wealthy, corporations=people and so on, all based on righteous ideological arguments rather than careful analysis, then hell no thanks.

I’m expecting Romney to convert to some more popular flavor of Christianity any day now.
