I should add that earlier in my time on the SDMb I did get into threads about opinion sorts of things. (I’ve been a member since 1999.) I slowly discovered that I didn’t really like threads about opinions about things because the discussions took up so much time. On occasion I look back on my posts from back then and wondered to myself why I joined the discussion on those threads. With factual threads the worst that happens is that I might have to say, “Forget it. I got my facts wrong. I should have searched more carefully and posted what I found more correctly.” With opinion threads it sometimes takes me a long time to explain what I really meant in a post.
What does it mean to Ctrl+F a forum?
In Windows, Ctrl+F brings up a search bar at the bottom of the screen. Type your search term into the search box, and every instance of that term will be highlighted. You can move between them until you find what you want.
The function works well in general, and I’ve used it in any number of web pages for various companies, Wikipedia, and whatnot; as long as the page had a clear beginning and end. As far as the SDMB goes, it worked well in vBulletin, as those pages were finite. It doesn’t work so well in Discourse, however, because of the infinite pages.
Thank you.
Hold down Ctrl and F when on this thread page. Click the “more” burgermenu (the three lines in the right of the search bar that just popped up). Then choose to search by forum (ATMB in this case) - except Discourse calls them “Categories”. It would also help if you check the “Matching in title only” filter checkbox. Then enter the wod “misogyny” in the top Search box (which would already have the words “About This Message Board in:title” in it if you’ve followed these instructions)
Or click here
You will find plenty of threads where the issue is discussed, and mention is made of women leaving or taking long breaks because of it. It was never just one discussion.
In Discourse (on Chrome), Ctrl+F for me brings up the Discourse search, same as clicking the at the top.
Thank you.
