What's the best food for me?

Hi everyone, basically I have a small problem with eating. I can’t eat a lot, I usually eat food that is for lunch, but then I am finished and I can’t eat any cake or anything else that may come after lunch (like for example during holidays). I weigh slightly less than I should. Also due to a lot of reasons, including laziness, I never workout (but funny enough, even though I am skinny and don’t work out, I can still do more push ups than most of my friends who are taller, stronger, eat regularly, etc.) Back to the topic, I decided to finally do work out, but only basic stuff, running, squats, pushups and other stuff you can do at home, but I absolutely don’t want to be a bodybuilder, to go the gym, no big muscles or anything, just enough to be of at least average strenght. So having in mind that I can’t eat a lot, what would be the best food for me, that is…what food is the most nutritious? I have a friend who is crazy about bodybuilding, but his whole life is revolving around that, so most of the stuff he eats is stuff that is weird for most people, so I don’t want that, I just want something as a ,bonus" that I can eat next to my regular food. For example I read somewhere that bananas are highly nutritional, so stuff like that. Also, when looking at product declarations, what is the thing I should look for mostly, calories/energy, proteins, carbohydrates or what? I have no idea what any of those things really are, so I never really paid attention.

If you don’t have issues with lactose, try milk. Eggs are good for protein as well.

There is no “one food that is the most nutritious”. Eat a little bit of everything.

What you do is probably more important than what you eat. Get a chin up bar, and do two or three sets each of pushups, chinups, squats, and crunches before your run. Eat a reasonable diet and you will find yourself at a healthy weight before too long.

Shodan

While some of this is factual, what is best is ultimately going to be a matter of opinion. So off to IMHO it goes.

Note that factual information such as an explanation of what proteins and carbohydrates are may still be posted in IMHO.
