What's the best video editor

I want something that I can use to open a particular AVI file, sharpen, brighten, gamma correct, etc and then resave.
Anyone know of anything?

If you have a lot of money to spend, check into Adobe Premiere. I don’t have just a ton of experience with it, but I would imagine it would do stuff like that. After all, my school’s TV production department uses it, and our school is the Kentucky High School Journalism Association Grand Champion.

If you have no money to spend, give VirtualDub a try. I believe it has filters that will do what you want.

I use VirtualDub. It’s a very good freeware video editing util that can handle a large number of mpeg1 and avi codecs.

If you want professional, my vote goes to Newtek’s Frame Factory and the Speed Razor card. If your just doing something simple like home movies VideoMach is fine and it’s shareware as well.

Thanks. You guys are the best.

It depends on your video digital setup-- which you didn’t mention. As some programs only work with some setups, etc.
