What's the big deal with Incubus?

Alright, I suppose it’s time I finally voice my opinion on this band, no this doesn’t belong in the pit, so hold your horses.

I really don’t see what the big deal with Incubus is, I was presuaded into buying “Morning View” about a year back and I was lukewarm to it, only a few tracks really stoodout to me. Anyways, a month back I was at a Tower records with 2 friends when I picked up “Make Yourself” from the CD rack. I asked one of my friends what he thought of it, in his words the album was perfect, one of his personal favorites. Trusting his judgement I picked it up and gave it a listen later that day, once again I was only lukewarm to it.

So now I must ask this to any Dopers who are Incubus fans, what is the big deal with them? I’m not saying they’re horrible musicians or phonies like Avril Lavigne and/or Limp Bizkit, I’d just seriously like to know what all the fuss is about. Many of my friends and even my own girlfriend have called them the “Modern day Doors”, I just don’t see it. Though Brandon Boyd does resemble Morrison a bit…

If you can make sense of why they have such a cult following to me then I will reconsider and give both albums a listen again. And of course, feel free to rant and rave on why exactly they’re so great, I need all the input I can get.

P.S: Yes I know music is a matter of taste, not everyone is meant to like the same bands, so don’t give me any of that please

I’m quite a fan of theirs. I prefer the more ‘funkified’ stuff they did on S.C.I.E.N.C.E and Make Yourself than their last album Morning View (which is still a good album). A big selling point for me is that their lyrics on those two earlier albums I thought were really cool, very much more more positive than some of the other dreck ‘I hate my father/girlfriend’ type lyrics other bands in the nu-metal genre were putting out.
