Hell, you’re all missing the obvious - MPSIMS, itself. Used to be there were only two forums on AOL. Comments on Cecil’s Columns and General Questions. Someone, can’t remember who, started a thread titled Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share, and voilà, here we are.
I am proud to say that I brought “asshat” to the SDMB, though I did not make it up.
Almost. Someone started a thread called “Titanic Wallpaper.” The post consisted entirely of someone giving a link to good Titanic wallpaper. (This was right when Titanic had just come out.) The next poster lambasted the OP for starting such a meaningless thread, and asked, “Why didn’t you just start a thread called Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share?” This was on AOL, and it was possible to change the thread title mid-thread, so the title was immediately changed by two seperate people. I know, because I was one of them. It was the other branch of the thread that caught on, though, which makes me sad. I could have said I was the OP of MPSIMS! How about…I was almost the OP?
There’s that guy that keeps running naked through the threads… I realize streaking exists IRL, but I’ve never seen it done on another message board.
Starting a countdown to somebody’s banning might be a local contrivance.
Yeah, when I saw “when come back, bring pie” about 12 times in one day on the Dope, I just had to search for the phrase origin. When I hit on Weebl, it was obvious he was the one being quoted.
I tell you, I had to change my pants twice.

And the band name thingy is definitely Dave Barry. I can’t remember him not saying it since I first started reading his stuff back in the 13th century.
How about: “I’ll see you in the Pit!” ?

I actually said “Band Name” aloud during a feature film trailer. In a theater.

I first heard the word felch in 1982.

Is it just me or does anyone think that the OP should have those in the order of #1 switching places with #3?
Cow-orkers seems too easy to be native to the SDMB, and “manny” has faded from use. How about the Dopefests? I’m sure people from other message boards have gotten together, but not with the frequency and gusto that we do (that I know about).
So, would this be the thread that started the pie hijack trend? Just curious. I always wanted to be a trend-setter. 
As pie is a three letter word, it’s hard to search properly, so I could be wrong.

I’m fairly sure the “og smash” thing was started here. As a matter of fact, I followed the thread in which it happened.
