What's the biggest trend that has been started on the SDMB?

This thread is brought to you by the number 4 and the letter Z.

Big Bird, over to you.

While not originating here, it brings many perverse pleasures waiting for the Famous/Notorious to join the choir above. What about **Celebrity Dead Pool **?

You ain’t gonna see that on a **Left Behind ** board.

oh, and for the origin of **Band Name ** *I * muttered it whilst still in my mother’s womb.

What’s the biggest trend that has been started on the SDMB?
Lame sequential thread titles title

Sorry to show my newbie stripe but that’s a new one for me. I assume it’s pronounced “ass-hat” like it sounds. How do I use it in rush-hour traffic?

Hey! That was my 100th post!
Whoo Hoo! Who da man!

Cincy Bengals, your best bet,
To see just how bad things can get!
Rah, Rah, Rah, Booo!
(repeat)

We had Thanksgiving dinner at my house, and when dessert was laid out (three kinds of pie), my teenage niece (who does not frequent this board) looked at it and said, “When come back bring pie!”
About half of us laughed like hyenas and had to explain it to everyone else. I saw it from a link here, but everyone else in my family who had seen the Weebl & Bob flash cartoon had seen it elsewhere.

You yell it loudly at everyone who’s in your way.

“How YOU doing?” is sourced from Joey on Friends, IIRC.

Did it occur to you to do a Google search before posting that? In fact you could have searched the SDMB archives where this was answered before.

“Og smash” is from the early days of the web. There was an on-line 'zine that had a parody computer advice column. The guy who answered the questions was a caveman character named Og. You can still find some archived copies of this on the web.

This was concept was adapeted in the thread that you mentioned and the Dopers ran with it, most of whom weren’t aware of the origns of Og.

Yes, five years old, not ten like I said. I had a momentary brain fart and mixed up the dates in my head. Thanks.

Haj

Wasn’t there even a video game caveman character named Og? He had one eye IIRC.

First of all, your link doesn’t work. Second, I disagree with you that it did not originate with the SDMB, at least in it’s current incarnation.

This thread contains the origins of “Og smash”, as started by the lovely racinchikki and ever since perpetuated by the lovely tiggeril. I’m sure racin can tell you she made it up. If I’m wrong, I apologize, but I’m pretty sure that’s how it is.

LaurAnge - racinchikki said it in that thread, it doesn’t mean she just made it up on the spot. I’m quite sure that Og outdates the SDMB by many years. I think there was even an article on slashdot about it awhile back. It started on usenet IIRC.

Well, I’m sure the word “Og” has been around before (it’s the stereotypical caveman name) but I really don’t think that Og in the sense of a deity who likes to smash and smite and speak in improper sentences was around before.

Oh well, all we can do is wait for racinchikki to show up and tell us what’s what.

In this post, racinchikki herself said that she didn’t come up with it. She first saw it in IRC chat and it came from somewhere else before that, The Internet Oracle. The link isn’t working but as I recall it is from 1997.

Here is a cashed copy.

Okay, I stand corrected.

The original Og was a caveman, not a diety, as I said but he did speak in the exact type of improper sentences as “our Og” does.

Maybe I haven’t been looking at the correct pop-culture trends, but I can’t remember seeing “X makes the baby Jesus cry” used in the same way other than on the Board before.

Am I the only one who remembers the spate of virtual marriages we had here a while back? I don’t know if this is the only place that did them, and no one does it any more cuz MPSIMS got pretty over-stocked of threads about fake on-line Doper marriages.

I forget who exactly I used to be virtually married to, but I had a harem of about 5 or 6 and came across as more of a slut than I usually do.
