What's the connection between Doug Flutie and the Marine Corps?

Is there a connection? I was watching the episode of A Football Life dedicated to him, and I was surprised to see him wearing a red polo shirt with a subdued Marine Corps emblem on it.

Say what? I searched but could not find a connection. Is there one?

Bump to ask again. I can’t find a connection, so why would he wear a nice USMC polo shirt during a scheduled interview? Unless, he’s a USMC fan.
