What's the deal with cats and strawberries?

Our two new cats LOVE strawberries! They’ll eat everything but the leaves, though at first they tried those, too. It was one of the things we gave them b/c they beg for everything we eat, thinking they’d turn their noses up. We don’t let them eat too much at one time, for fear of kitten runs - those are nasty.

I can see the corn chips, my cat eats dry cat food and it’s the same hard crunchy consistancy of a corn chip. Hmm???

I think with many things it’s the salt.

Mine go nuts for Nepeta for some reason… Its the oddest thing… Anyone else run into this with their cats or is it just mine?

I had a cat in high school that liked chunky salsa. I caught her one day with her head in a just-empty jar licking the bottom of it’s salsa-y goodness. When she pulled her head out she had a ring around her head of salsa-saturated fur.

One of our Siamese cats had a taste for my mother’s home-baked cookies. The funniest part was when my father got up earlier than usual for work and found the cat licking every cookie on the pile and then walking away. Dad had been eating from the pile every morning while drinking his coffee.

the scubakitties have learned to associate any rustling noise with potential munchies.

if i rattle something in the kitchen while cooking - such as a bag of frozen veggies, suddenly i’m knee deep in two felines wanting to see exactly what it is i’m up to.

Cats are just strange. Mine will eat ANYTHING. I’m honestly not sure we’ve found anything that he doesn’t like. Aside from the usual things he has snacked on Mandarin oranges, salad, bread, crackers, pasta and so on. Basically if we’re eating it, he wants some. He’ll also drink about anything and has a taste for white wine. (Don’t yell, I give him one drop off of my finger!)

Your cat is not strange at all. One of my cats goes wild when I bring strawberries home. She’ll have her head in the grocery bag before I can remove the strawberries.
I started putting the leaves of the strawberries down for her, and she would lie on them and rub her face on them. She has no interest in eating the strawberries – it seems to be smell she loves. I have four cats and only the one does this. This is one reason I love cats; now dogs will eat anything, but cats can be finicky. One of my cats (the oldest female) loves tortilla chips. The female who likes the smell of strawberries also loves cream cheese, as does the one male. At breakfast, they sit patiently awaiting a taste of cream cheese from our bagels.
