What's the deal with the GOP attacking Kerry for being rich?

elfkin, please tell me you were joking. I’m an Evil Republican and even I don’t think he’s a hypocrite because of his wealth.

Oh, wait, this sentence proves you’re joking cause if it wasn’t a joke it would be just plain, well, never mind:

Don’t be so quick to dismiss this as Elephant-sided Donkey-bashing. A lot of Democrats believe what elfkin477 said.

In fact, I would bet that the GOP is probably aiming their “Kerry has more money than god” shit at Democrats, but in this election it’s going to be next to fucking impossible for the pubs to get swing democrats, thank god.

If you use an average figure of 15,000 miles per year at 20 mpg (I didn’t look it up, but should at least be in the ballpark) it comes to an additional $375 per vehicle. 2 car family both averaging 15,000 miles - $750 extra expense (on top of the already inflated gas expenses).

I used to average in excess of 30,000 per year, so it would be more than double.

Sorry for the hijack - just wanted to answer the inquiry.

Yes, that’s my point. I don’t think he’s evil because he has money, but half of his party seems to think that anyone with money secretly worships the devil, so it does seem hypocritical to attempt to appeal to them when by their definition he’s an evil wealthy person hoarding money that could go to the poor himself. But hey, if they want to over look that, I guess that says more about their being hypocrites then him, huh? " Rich people are evil! Unless they’re democrats running for president or are in the entertainment industry!"

Or Ted Kennedy.

Change “half” to “a noisy fringe numbering in the low single digits” and I might be willing to half take you seriously.

Democrat and, apparently, hypocrite.

Thanks, flickster. That math makes sense. I’m in a sole-wage earner house only 10 miles from work, so the numbers seemed scary large, but two people each driving 40 miles each day is not unreasonable (especially if you count going to the store, childcare, etc.). And 20 mpg is at least in the ballpark.

Ignorance fought, hijacking defeated; flickster authorized to wear Combat “P”, indicating valor in the face of a political topic.

Sure would be a shame to encourage people to live close to work or take public transport, y’know…

Condemning someone for being (a) wealthy and (b) trying to help the poor is as stupid as condemning a doctor who’s (a) healthy and (b) trying to help patients who are ill.

(Analogy stolen from Tom Tomorrow  )
