I mean, are they interchangable? Does every tubagirlgrow up to be a TubaDiva? Was TubaDiva once a mere tubagirl? (This isn’t as big of a no-brainer as it seems) And then theres the BIG question…is a TubaDiva or tubagirl inherently superior to a SousaphoneDiva or a piccolo girl? These are questions that need to be seriously considered, and not merely put off. After all, such people as BassoonDivas and harmonicagirls have feelings too. If we ignore even one TimpaniDiva or kazoogirl, we should be ashamed.
The biggest difference between a tubagirl and a tubadiva is that I became “tubagirl” when I was still… a girl. I got my first email address with this nickname when I was 13. I am really a tubagoddess by now but haven’t changed my name yet.
And yes, tuba-whatevers are vastly superior to any other instrument related names.
hee hee, I had a thread with my name in the header!!! heehee
During one of my first contacts with the Straight Dope Message Board, I inquired as to whether or not Tubadiva played the tuba, or simply was tubular. I think the staff fingered me as a odd dude right there.
Persephone, I’m incredibly flattered. I promise not to give you the advice my folks gave me, which was “Get a real job, whydoncha.”
BTW, I’ll be playing a TubaChristmas this coming Friday, December 8. Me and about 350 of my closest friends. Any of you in the area, come on out for lunch and Christmas carols. You can’t miss me, I’ll be the one with the big axe.
your humble TubaDiva
“Santa wants a tuba for Christmas . . . won’t somebody give him one?”
Hey I have my TubaChristmas on Dec. 9 in Jacksonville. When it is at Disney we round up 500-600 players. but this year they are doing it in Jacksonville, so the numbers will be drastically decreased.
I’ll be at Akron’s TubaChristmas on the 9th, if I manage to bum a eupho off someone (I think my high school’s got one in storage somewhere, but I’ll have to see.) I think we broke 600 people last year.
