I don’t recall any very shocking sex scenes in Carrie or American Beauty.
“Center of the World,” which featured a woman licking a lollipop, but with that other set of lips. I was just shocked that they’d show it in a non-porn scene, even though it was a brief shot and artistically overexposed, it was very easy to see what was happening.
And if you watch it on slo-mo, Jennifer Connolley’s lesbian double dildo scene in “Requiem for a Dream” in slo-mo, it’s fairly shocking. But that’s about the only way you can see what’s going on. I wasn’t VERY shocked by it, since in regular mode it’s really hard to see what’s going on.

I’ve heard that the main-stream movie with one of the most explicit sex scenes are “James Joyce’s women” (1985) (I’ve seen a couple of pictures from it)

Crash (the one about car wreck fetishists, not the one about racism) wasn’t explicit, but it had some of the creepiest sex I’ve ever seen.
