News reports stated that the bomb was strapped to the guy’s stomach and that when it went off it basically blew his guts out but that there were no facial injuries.
That happened nine days ago.
Yet Swedish authorities are still referring to the perp as the “man suspected of being the bomber”. And saying they are “95% sure” of the guy’s identity.
Nine days?
What’s the holdup?
Perhaps they are holding off identifying the bomber so as not to tip off possible accomplises that they know who he is… or perhaps he somehow snuck into the country and have no idea who he is.
But they DO know exactly who he is. His name and photo have been in the news reports since about 2 hours after the bombing.

So it’s not about “not tipping off” anyone.
It doesn’t take nine days to ID a body that is mostly intact.
Has the guy been formally identified?
Not sure how you define “formally”, but his name and photo have been splashed all over the front page of newspapers worldwide. So if it isn’t him, theres one hell of a libel lawsuit afoot.
IDing a body involves finding/contacting the next of kin and having them confirm the identification. Only then is an ID officially confirmed.
Hundreds of people actually witnessed this plane crash first hand. Within hours of the crash the media was stating the names of the alleged victims taken from the flight manifest. Yet the government officially remained mum for weeks before the three names the media were stating were confirmed as accurate.
Why? Protocol. The families of the alleged victims all had to be contacted personally about the crash. Each family was asked to provide DNA samples. Those samples had to tested and linked to any DNA samples found in the crash. Once confirmed by DNA testing, the families had to be officially notified of the results. Only then could the government officially release the names that “everyone” already knew.
So why? Liability. Insurance. Potential litigation.
I’m wondering if their is a legal thing as well. If bombing is a criminal offence and he hasn’t been convicted of it, should he be described as a “bomber”?
Just want to confirm this - I saw an unedited video feed of this. It looked like a giant ice cream scoop had dug through his belly and scooped it out but yeah, face intact.
