If you have a choice, and assuming you are just a middle class person.
50? 55? 60? 62? 65? 70? 75, or never?

45 would be nice.
This sounds like more of an IMHO than a GQ post, but my own take on it is that you should retire while you’re still young enough to do fun stuff. I managed to bail out at 46, and have been hiking, kayaking, and generally wandering around the world ever since. Highly recommended!
The General Questions forum (GQ) is for questions with factual answers. Polls and surveys belong in the In My Humble Opinion forum (IMHO), so I’ll move this thread over there.

Tomorrow?
I would like to retire from my current profession no later than 45 (40 would be better), then work as an artist an never retire.
NOW.
I think it’s great that this thread is, at least temporarily, right next to the one entitled “Holy CRAP! I had no idea how Strom Thurmond looked lately!”
I’ll give you a hint: the right retirement age is some time before people start writing stuff like that about you.
A lot of it depends on whether you’re working at something you really enjoy doing or whether, like most poor bastards, you’re working just to keep yourself fed, clothed, and housed.
