So I figured I stop buy at the local Best Buy and buy myself a copy of Unreal Tournament 2004, and head home for a night of fun. Probably won’t be happening any time soon tonight though, as the game 5.5 GB  . I was wondering why the box was so heavy, I was thinking a large instruction manual. Nope. It was the 6 cd’s that came with the game. Hopefully the installation will finish soon. You’d think for games this large, the game would have a DVD install version. Hopefully the game will be as fun as it looks.
I was going to say UT2K3, taking up an entire two gigs of hard drive space using three CDs. Looks like UT2K4’s got that beat easily.
And mine (Neverwinter Nights Gold), which comes in at about 4 gig.
How big is Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic? I think that was 5 disks.
Also, I think the last disk of UT2004 was bonus stuff that didn’t need to be installed.
There is a DVD version - but IIRC it’s expensive and fairly hard to find.
For me it was probably the Final Fantasy XI Beta, which clocked in at around 4 gigs I believe (playing the PS2 version nowadays).
Is NWN Gold that large? Well, then, installing that beat out my install of UT2K3. It’s even larger now that I added the second expansion pack. And don’t get me started on the mods.
Well, my Sims directory is about 5 GB. Does that count? I have all but one of the expansions.
Biggest one right now is Neverwinter Nights. With all of the expansions and a bunch of mods installed, it’s 6.98 GB.
KOTOR is a 4 CD install; the CDs weigh in at 2.74 gigs.
My KOTOR folder weighs in at a solid 3.5 gigs.
The DVD version isn’t any more expensive than the CD version.
Sorry about the double post… late. Tired.
Wow, I feel so surpassed by the mainstream gaming community, lol…
The biggest game I ever installed was Half Life and that was just over 1 Gb, IIRC.
Relative to the total hard drive space?
I installed all 6 Wolfenstein-3D episodes (6.74MB) on a 10MB hard drive, back in the old days when I still had a 386SX.
Hardly had room for my word processor and AOL 1.5 after that install.
Side Note: I still am playing those on my Windows XP machine - they work great!
Baldur’s Gate is on 6 CDs (plus an expansion), if you do a full install that’s about ~4 gigs, and this was 5 years ago when I only had a 15 gig hard drive! Actually, come to think of it, I’m using that same drive still
So 25% of my hard drive.
I have Diablo2 and Starcraft on one comp. Is that a lot?
Largest I have is Flight Simulator at 2.66 G. But plan to download a bunch of stuff for it. Would that count?
Er, Flight Simulator 2004
At one point my Battlefield 1942 directory (with Road to Rome, Secret Weapons, Desert Combat, and a bunch of minor mods) weight in at over 6 gigs. However, the largest single install I’ve done was Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, or Persephone Yesterday, or whatever that piece of blecch was called. At any rate, I only played it under duress from a friend and I deleted it the first chance I got.
Does every **Tomb Raider ** count as one game? (Plus extra levels on some of them- I think I w#have 8 or 9 discs all told)
Zoo Tycoon is quite big if you buy all the add-ons and download all the downloadable stuff …
Damn. I thought a game this size was pretty rare, I didn’t expect that many games to be so large. I’m sure 10 years from now, 100 GB games will be the norm.
And it’s not new. Wing Commander 4 came on at least 6 CDs, and that was years ago.
