What's the meaning behind your SDMB user name?

HA!!!

Well Fnoonf, maybe you can do something retro. Like create a new name, maybe fnooonf? That would make it kind of a pseudo-palindrome. Could you live with that? Or perhaps, theposterformerlyknownasFnoonf?

But then again, good ol’ Fnoonf is just fine by me.

Pretty easy. I’m a Senior Airman in the Air Force (Air National Guard), and my favorite band is the Doors, all put into one euphonious Gomer Pyle-type screenname.

I probably mentioned this in many other threads, but I just decided to choose a name the first time I found a chat room and randomly chose lel. It’s just become part of my online identity over the years.

Little Man from Another Place, aka “The Arm”.

I like ‘lel’

One can give a lel = smack in Dutch. Or one can be a lellebel = [ahem] a ‘loose’ woman.

Pencil Pusher… I was a truck driver before getting injured now I’m a desk jockey hence the name.

It means “my initials and three random numbers”.

Delving deeper: “I’m not remotely cool enough to come up with a great and original name, and all the common ones I could think of were taken, and all I wanted to do at the time was a search through the archives, and I was really frustrated, and I’ve been meaning to have it changed-by-admin but never got around to it, damn it!”

A couple of years ago I saw my first name spelled in Hebrew. I thought it was different and kind of nice. When I got around to getting my own email address, that’s what came to mind. I think there was already an aryk so I appended 29 which is my lucky number. So everywhere I go on the 'net I’ve been aryk29 ever since, and haven’t ever seen anybody else using the name.

No, I’m not Jewish.

Oh, God, I love this.

Babe Ruth was the Sultan of Swat.
I cannot swat a baseball with a bat to save my frickin’ life.
On the other hand, I have done 2000+ autopsies and counting.
I wield a mean scalpel.
And I’m a laaaady… all right I am female.

Well its as good a reason as any to jump in…

Pangloss was the character (a royal advisor of some sort) in Voltaire’s ‘Candide’ who was best known for exclaiming “…its all for the best!” ‘M’ stands for Marvelous which is how he was usually addressed.

Aren’t you sorry you asked??

Mine’s pretty straightforward. Yersinia pestis is the bacterium that causes bubonic plague (pneumonic and septicemic too). I’m an ex-microbiologist with a really bizarre/sick/twisted/warped sense of humor.

Hi. I’m Q. Wanderer. The first couple of times I used the name I bothered to spell it out this way. It’s a combination of the meaning of my middle name, the word quandary, and a Star Trek character.

When I went to get an AIM name, it was taken! I couldn’t believe it! So I stuck a 7 on the end, representing my lucky number and yet another Trek character.

Most of my online wanderings are under this name, but when I started posting Discworld fanfiction, I chose the name, Leona da Quirm.

Now that’s an interesting story. I basically am Leonard da Quirm, but the name didn’t quite fit. There were two problems. So I pounded out two letters from the name, and now it fits perfectly. Just like Angua’s armor.

Sorry to those who don’t get it, you just have to read Guards, Guards! by Terry Pratchett. And probably Men at Arms. And while you’re at it read Feet of Clay. The best book in the world. yeah.

Sometime I should tell the story of how I became half of Dangerous Beens.

I love that sketch! Didn’t they also have a flavor called “Anthrax Truffle”, or something along those lines?

My username pretty much sums me up: I’m bitter from much of the crap I’ve had to deal with over the past few years, yet there’s still a sweet side to me. I’m not completely jaded, only about 75% or so.

Ever see the film, The Last Unicorn?

I used to be a unicorn.

Ah, I don’t have a lot of 'net time, certainly not enough to actually participate in a forum like this, and I was aware of this when I signed up so I figured I’d just take the unmysterious practical and truthful route of aptly describing my posting style to-be.

One day, some day in the future, I hope I’ll have a name like Stay.
(I really do enjoy SDMB and the people it keeps, would love to get more involved (more? ok, just involved) but… 'tis not to be for now. Sniff.)

Freddy Mercury’s real name is Ferhook. I’m always some variation on that, plus a nice girlie a, or ah on the end.

Mine is from an Italian pop song by Alex Britti Mi Piace

pero mi piace…but I like it

It’s really just what I happened to be listening to the first time I logged into SDMB

“Age Quod Agis” is latin for “Do what you are doing.” It’s typically used in the sense of “Do what you are doing well.” In other words, “Concentrate.”

I was at work and didn’t feel like working, so I was searching SDMB and decided to finally un-lurk. I tried any number of screen names, but all the ones I came up with were taken. Before I knew it, I’d wasted 20 minutes trying to come up with a screen name. This was my way of telling myself to get back to work . . . and I thought it might be appropriate in case I posted in GD.

And I thought you just wrote slashfic stories… :stuck_out_tongue:

I like using random adjective-noun combinations for usernames. In retrospect I should have put a bit more thought into it - meeh…
