I have heard this song twice on an oldie station. You’d think if it was an oldie, I’d have heard it before, but no; also, the DJ did not identify it either time! In addition, I can only remember a fragment or two of lyrics. Hopefully, one of you guys can fill me in, because it is a great song.
It sounds like the singer is Bob Dylan or Tom Petty. Fragment 1: " . . . she grew up tall in the Indiana night, she grew up straight, and she grew up right." Fragment 2 (chorus): “Oh, my my, oh, hell yes, honey put on that party dress.” Fragment 3 (chorus): “One last dance with Mary Jane, one more drink to kill the pain.”
The singer is Tom Petty, the song is a few years old, not really an oldie. The name might be ‘Last Dance with Mary Jane’ but I’m really not sure and too lazy to look this morning.
Thanks, guys. I thought it was Tom Petty! I guess it was more of a “classic” rock station than an oldies, though I don’t see that much of a difference.
