What's the next big epic movie trilogy or series?

so…since the completion of
The Matrix
The Lord of the Rings
Star Wars
and with Harry Potter only having a few books left,

what’s the next big epic series that will have all the nerds dressing up and waiting in line for ten hours?

Narnia still has a way to go.

Halo - if it ever gets made.

His Dark Materials - The Golden Compass is currently being filmed. Not sure how big it will turn out to be

Atlas Shrugged? If it were filmed properly it would need to be in two or three episodes at least I’d think.

I don’t see anything coming on the horizon that makes me think “That’s the film that’s going to kick off a successful franchise!” The only big budget film coming next year that is attempting to start a franchise and isn’t a sequel is Transformers; I don’t expect greatness from it. So if the next big thing is coming next year it’ll be something out of left field.

Whatever happened to the ERB “John Carter Of Mars” movie?

Nevermind, I answered my own question at IMDb.

Still on hold.

IMDb entry

I would love to see a remake of Conan, along the lines of the Savage Sword of Conan. Hobbesian at its finest, or worst depending on your point of view. Make him the anti-hero he is supposed to be, not the noble savage ala Arnold. (Though I always did want to see him portray Conan the King and make a proper trilogy.)

It has the potential.

I’m waiting for this also. They seem to have the atmosphere right.

Mebbe Batman?

Smurfs?

I must be getting old and jaded, but after being let down by Star Wars, Star Trek, LotR, and the first Chronicles of Narnia movie, I can’t really imagine waiting in line at the theaters for much of anything now.

Besides the next Batman, that is…

I think Christian Bale is going to do more Batman movies, and, of course, Spiderman 3 hasn’t come out yet. I suppose they might make more of those.

Artemis Fowl?

There’s franchises and then there are Franchises.

Star Wars, The Matrix and Lord of the Rings were not just interesting movies but they really raised the bar in terms of movie making and special effects. They also brought something to the screen we have never seen before.
Narnia was ok, but to me it’s kind of the Pepsi to LOTR’s Coke. Unfortunately it seems like they have inspired crappy movie versions of any fantasy book producers can get their hands on.

Re-imaginings of Batman, Conan, Superman, etc can’t have the epic quality because we’ve seen all that before.

Forget Halo. Videogame movies notoriously suck. See the Resident Evil franchise.

Yes, they do, more often than not. But Halo, done right, would totally rock.

I’ve only read the first three Lemony Snicket books, but I really enjoyed the movie (I read the books after seeing it) and I wish they’d make more. It was like someone finally made a great live-action Roald Dahl movie that captured the look and feel of his books, except that it wasn’t based on a Roald Dahl book.

Looks like I’m in the minority opinion on this, though.

I liked the Lemony Snicket movie, too, but have read none of the books. Was it a box-office flop, or a disappointment? Haven’t heard any speculation as to a second movie.

Fantastic Four seems to be the beginning of a new franchise.

I’d go to a follow-up of ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’.
