And has the park ever been close to capacity?
This comes from the kaos in Disney Hong Kong in which they have sold the park out for 8 consecutive days and desperate parents were seen throwing their children over the gates to get them inside.

When I was in college, I worked in the Magic Kingdom for the summer. We were turning people away in the parking lot by around 4pm on July 4th. Of course, those were typically FL residents because after a certain capacity they only allow people staying on property into the parks.
An unofficial but informed posting on The Disney Blog. Short answer: There is no official capacity. Fire marshal codes apply only to indoor areas.
We’ve been there Christmas-New Years several times and people who were not staying on property were being turned away at around noon. As you might imagine, some were very angry.
A few years ago I was at Disney over the Easter holiday. I seem to recall the Magic Kingdom being closed (to people not staying at a Disney property) on Easter Sunday. It may have been the day after or the day before, however.
I was at Walt Disney world over this past New Year’s Eve. The Magic Kindom on New Year’s Eve was very very VERY croweded. They actully hit the 3rd level of over capacity. The first level is closing the parking lots, the second level is not allowing new people into the park, and the third level is once people leave the park, they are not allowed back in.
Luckly, I was not at the Magic Kindom for New Years, I spent it at Pleasure Island.
The total is likely well guarded, but it’s also flexible since you have to be able to adjust for people who have left and come back in.
I went to Disneyland in Anaheim for my 40th birthday last December. It was a Saturday. My friend and I came in and out a couple of times and at one time we were told that no new people were coming in.
But we had our hands stamped!
I’ve heard the Magic Kingdom has had more than 90,000 people inside its gates, but the resulting horde was so unmanageable that they keep it to around 70,000 now most of the time.
My guess is that if the MK can hold 70K, then Epcot could handle 100K with not much more effort, as it’s much larger than the MK, and its attractions are generally engineered for larger audiences.
I doubt seriously whether the Disney-MGM Studios or Animal Kingdom could hold 70K. Maybe 50K for the Studios and 45K for the AK. I doubt even more whether any rational person would want to be in those parks at those attendance levels.
Hope this helps.
