What's the oldest coin in your wallet right now?

I’ve got a 1973 quarter and a 1998 Falkland Island 50p.

I carry a 1705 Russian Beard Token around with me. Pretty strange, except I used to collect and deal in Russian coins 25-40 years ago. Always like this one. Idiosyncratic, I know.

Cripes! I had to use a magnifying glass! :stuck_out_tongue:

I had a bunch of change still in my wallet from the last road trip we took to Salt Lake City.

I found 2 1972 pennies, a 1964 nickel, two dimes: one 1968 and one 1965, and a 1974 quarter. That was just the old stuff, and I haven’t cleaned out the bottom of my purse yet!

100 Lek (Albanian) from 2001

Nothing older than a 1993 20 pence at the moment. There are plenty of old Victorian pennies stashed away in a box of my gran’s old stuff upstairs though.

I love the Intranets. People all over the world digging through their pockets and wallets!

Not many coins in my wallet today.

Pennies - 1990, 2001, 2007
Nickels - 1988, 2006, 2008, 2011
Dimes - 2011, 2011
Quarters - 2006, 2007, 2011, 2011
Twonies - 1996, 2000, 2007

I had eight quarters, nine dimes, five nickels, and five pennies in my pocket. The oldest coin is a 1967 dime.

People keep coins in their wallets? My wallet’s only been a home to cards and paper money.

Coins get fed to the piggy bank every night.

Young whippersnappers today - they got no respect.

My oldest coin is a 1980 Australian 20c piece, also featuring the queen. Compared to the newer coins she’s looking particularly young and pretty. She’s showing a bit of shoulder too.

Japanese coins here:

1-yen coin: Showa-47 (1972)* (This is also my birthyear…YAY! Do I win something? )

5-yen coin: Showa-48 (1973)

50-yen coin: Heisei-11 (1999)

100-yen coin: Heisei-3 (1991)

  • Formal Japanese style dating uses the era of the Emperor at the time of minting.

Coin purse. A 1971 Two Pence piece. Which is as old as circulated coins go in the UK now.

There are no coins in my wallet right now. They keep falling out.

That farthing, and one other odd coin, are the only ones granted wallet space. All others rattle around in my pocket until needed.

I don’t keep change in my wallet . . . but I recently sorted all denominations of Euro coins from my trip to France (I collect one coin from each country for each denomination). Since no euros go farther back than the '90s, none were older than that.

For a few months I was carrying around a silver denarius with my pocket change, as I’d absently stuck it in my pocket to show a colleague at school (it has an unusual reverse.) I took it out on the one hand to have it mounted in a bezel and on the other because it’s roughly the same size as a dime/ 5p piece and almost went into a charity box with the rest of the smaller coins.

It was minted around AD 125.

I have 8 coins in my wallet. The oldest is a 1 krona from 1973 and the youngest is a 5 krona from 2009.

11 coins from the 2000s, 4 from the 1990s, 5 from the 1980s and 1 from 1975. They have 4 different portraits of the queen on the back, showing a progresion towards a greater number of chins.

I was going to say 1980 from a 5 pence coin, but on closer inspection, it’s a 1/2 Fr coin!
